Consider Japan, whose population decreased from ~127 million to ~123 million in the last 10 years. The birth rate is below replacement level, and Japan allows essentially zero immigration.

On the other hand, Japan’s population was ~ 60 million 100 years ago.

So is a population decrease necessarily bad for a country?

Note: God says that a man shall leave his father and mother and become united with his wife . . . . In other words, God encourages the creation and growth of families as the foundation for a harmonious society. Japan is mostly Shintoism and Buddhism, with Christianity a firm small minority, yet their culture promotes a harmonious society (with a lower crime rate than the United States’).

Peace.

I guess it depends on the social welfare system and how many old people living alone are there.

Without children, old people will need to take care about themselves, both financially and physically.

However, we live in quite transformative times - it is possible that breakthroughs in anti-aging, AI, quantum computing and automation/robots will create a society which we cannot imagine fully, today.
