Anyone care to define 'Oneness'?
The opposite of duality??
Sorry...that's just me trying to be a smarty pants!
Uhm. I'd say, just off the top of my head, that it's where two things come together in absolute peace and harmony...for all intents and purpose one being in mind, heart and thought.
The "Oneness doctrine believes that God is made manifest in three different persons. The Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The Godhead.
The difference I believe, between oneness adherents and others Pentecostal believers...is that they see God as the same single entity, in various forms. Eg: One God: the Father came to earth in the flesh as the Son. He died on the cross and appeared again as the Holy Spirit. The bible clearly defines the Father, Son and Holy Spirit as three separate 'persons' who are one, collectively, just as we who are in Jesus are one but we are not the same people.
Blessings!!!
That was pretty much my understanding of 'Oneness'. I've known and worked with several Pentecostals personally. Thanks for confirming.I am operating from memory but this can easily be verified from the internet I am sure.
A doctrine of oneness is also known as "Jesus Only." This is the doctrine of the United Pentecostal Church and some other Pentecostal churches as well as well as some Apostolic Churches.
They believe that if you believe in the trinity that you are worshiping three gods and therefore you are in heresy. They also baptise in the name of Jesus only. (Not in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit)
They believe that the name of God is Jesus, The name of the Son is Jesus, The name of the Holy Spirit is Jesus.
All of this sounds like a play on words but it is not to them. They are adamant about it and get upset over it all.
Most also believe that to be saved a person has to speak in tongues.
This belief system originated some time in the 19 teens. If memory serves me correctly in California in a camp meeting overseen by a woman by the name of Maria Woodworth Etter.
Hope that helps.
If you need more info google oneness Pentecostals or Jesus only Pentecostals......
