Who do you identify with
When you were born into a family, that family gave you an identity. You had traditons maybe and probably followed cultural traits. Alot of what we learned was good, I remember the good times of Christmas and big family meals at the Holidays. Those are wonderful memories, I also know not everyone had the same experience. The holidays can be very depressing for some people and bring back sad memories.
The point in these thoughts; is concerning identity, where do we get our identity.
Spiritually speaking the first identity you had came from your old-man, sin-nature. In our original birth we were all in Adam and had a sin-nature, Ephesians 2:2-3
2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:
3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.
That nature became your identity, it was the thing that taught you to believe you were a bad no person, a no count sinner.
We were sinners, but only by our fallen nature, and we were not the original sinner. We partook of the nature to do the things we did, good or bad, to do his bidding if you will, but Satan was the original sinner from the beginning, 1 John3:8
8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
Keep in mind there has never been a time when you were not a created being in the image and likeness of God.
Where does all this stack up in Christ, in Christ you have a new nature. The Christ in you nature, so why must I learn Christ as Paul writes. Because when I learn Christ who is my life, I'm learning about my new nature. When you get born again, you have an old mind with a new nature, Christ in you. We basically know nothing about that and go about trying to put it all together, Galatians 2:20.
The only way it can be put together is revelation knowledge, Spirit taught knowledge. The HolySpirit will teach you Christ and that is what the gospel does.
We all seem to have a filter in our minds that says everything you know about Christ must come through that filter to accept it.
Be encouraged to allow Christ to flow through your mind, when Christ overwhelms the mind, then the mind operates the body, Christian living is spontaneous, Phil. 1:21
21 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
