Elizabeth, filled with the Holy Spirit, says to Mary:

"And why is this granted to me that the mother of my Lord should come to me?" (Luke 1:43)

In Luke's Gospel, "Lord" is a divine title:

• Luke 1:17 - "the Lord their God"
• Luke 1:76 - "go before the Lord"
• Luke 2:11 - "Christ the Lord"

Later, the Apostle Thomas says directly to Jesus:

"My Lord and my God!" (John 20:28)

Elizabeth calls Mary "the mother of my Lord."
Thomas calls Jesus "My Lord and my God."

Thomas makes explicit what Elizabeth had already recognized: the child Mary carried is God the Son incarnate.

That is why Christians call Mary the Mother of God.

The title does not mean Mary created God, existed before God, or is greater than God.

It means the one She bore is truly God in the flesh.

Ultimately, "Mother of God" is not primarily a statement about Mary. It is a confession about who Jesus is.
The question that immediately occurs to me is: why are you asking this? If it is merely to stress that the Lord Jesus Christ is God manifest in the flesh, then all genuine Christians will agree with that; but, I suspect that that is not your motive.

Catholics do, but Christians don't.

Jesus said "For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother."

Catholics venerate Mary so much, they venerate her as Mother of God and have elevated her to a divine status. (Note how they capitalize the h in Her).

If Mary is that important, why do the church epistles of Paul, James, John, and Peter never mention her a single time?

You would think that the inspired instructions to the church would say something about Mary, but they are silent.
    • Immaculate Conception: Defined in 1854 by Pope Pius IX, recognizing that Mary was preserved free from original sin from the first moment of her conception.
    • Perpetual Virginity: Affirming her virginity before, during, and after the birth of Christ.
    • Assumption: Defined in 1950 by Pope Pius XII, celebrating her body and soul being taken into heaven at the end of her earthly life.
  • Ark of the New Covenant: Compares Mary carrying Jesus in her womb to the ancient Hebrew Ark of the Covenant holding the Word of God.
  • Star of the Sea (Stella Maris): An ancient title symbolizing her role as a guiding light for the faithful through life's storms.
  • Seat of Wisdom: Honored in the Litany of Loreto, highlighting her intimate union with Christ, the Wisdom of God.
  • Refuge of Sinners and Comforter of the Afflicted: Titles expressing her maternal mercy and intercession for humanity in trouble.

  • Mediatrix of Grace
  • Spouse of the Holy Spirit
  • Co-redemptrix
Could you please provide documentation from a Catholic source that teaches that Mary is:
the spouse of the Holy Spirit,
a co-redemptrix.

Some have referred to her in that way,,,but, to the best of my knowledge, it is not Catholic doctrine.

Here's a link to an R.C. site, which claims that Mary is our "Co-redemptrix" and that this assertion comes from the so-called "Magisterium". Needless to say, it's the usual tedious R.C. sophistry.

I read a little.
It kept repeating the magesterium of the CC.
THIS is what I'd like to see.
NOT an article written by some priest...
Priests have their own opinions.

Could you make your case please?
You'd have to highlight WHERE the CCC states that Mary is a co-redeemer or co-redemptrix.

I cannot remember seeing it anywhere and Popel Francis did not agree to any such title, and THIS Pope has specifically forbidden it.

It would be nice if we protestants stopped hating our Catholic brethren long enough to speak the truth about what that church teaches.

Source: Gemini

The Pope and the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith have officially clarified that the title "Co-redemptrix" (or "co-redeemer") for the Virgin Mary must not be used. [1, 2]

Key points of the measure

    • The document: The doctrinal note entitled Mater Populi Fidelis was approved by Pope Leo XIV on 7 October 2025 and made public in November 2025. [1, 2, 3]
    • The decision: The Vatican discourages and rejects the use of the title "Co-redemptrix" and also places strong restrictions or criticisms on the expression "Mediatrix of all graces." [1, 2, 3]
    • The reason: The expression "co-" risks placing Mary on the same level as Jesus Christ, obscuring her unique and exclusive role as the sole Savior and Redeemer of humanity. [1, 2, 3]

Mary as spouse of the Holy Spirit:

Did you happen to read THIS?
Do you understand what it means?
It's written in English...

The pious custom of referring to the Holy Spirit as the spouse of Mary is a symbolic expression of Mary’s perpetual virginity and the virgin birth of Jesus. It is not meant in a literal manner but rather in terms of Mary’s singular devotion to God and unique relationship to the Trinity. It is similar to how religious sisters sometimes refer to Jesus as their spouse.

More titles of Mary:

Mary has many titles.
Do we wish to go through each one??

Mary as Co-redemptrix:

No need to listen to more nonsense.

This is the teaching of the Catholic Church from official sources:

Christians don't call Mary the mother of god.
Catholics do, but Christians don't.

Jesus said "For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother."
(Matthew 12:50)

Same thing is true regarding prayer.

Christians don't pray to Mary.
Catholics do, but Christians don't.

Scripture consistently emphasizes that prayer belongs to God. The Westminster Larger Catechism explains that God alone can search hearts, hear requests, pardon sins, and fulfill desires, and therefore prayer should be made to Him alone (Psalm 139:23-24; 1 Kings 8:39; Acts 1:24). Revelation 22:8-9 also shows that angels refuse worship, reinforcing that worship and prayer are reserved for God.

Jesus instructed His disciples to pray to the Father: “When you pray, say: ‘Father…’” (Luke 11:1-2), establishing a pattern of addressing God directly. Paul similarly teaches that through Jesus and by the Spirit, believers have access to the Father (Ephesians 2:18), highlighting that prayer is ultimately directed to God even when mediated by Christ. But never does the Bible say we should pray to saints who have physically died in faith, not even Mary.

While prayer is primarily directed to God the Father, the Bible also shows that praying to Jesus is appropriate. The apostle Paul and early Christians prayed to Jesus (2 Corinthians 12:8; Revelation 22:20), demonstrating that prayer to the Son is consistent with biblical practice in Christianity. The Holy Spirit guides believers in prayer, helping them align their requests with God’s will (Ephesians 6:18; Romans 8:15; Galatians 4:6)

The Bible distinguishes between worship and intercession. Believers may ask others to pray for them, and angels are described as ministering spirits who present prayers to God (Revelation 8:3-4; Hebrews 1:14), but neither angels nor saints replace God or receive worship.

In summary, the Bible teaches that all prayer and worship are ultimately directed to God, while also allowing for prayer through Jesus and the Spirit, and intercessory support from others, without compromising God’s unique authority and worthiness of worship.

The CC teaches inercession.
Mary is not worshipped.

Why do you persist in spreading lies?

You should love the CC.
Your hero, Augustine of Hippo was Catholic.
John Calvin loved him.
Mentioned him 4,000 times in his sermons.

So YOU believe that everyone is going to hell except some lucky souls that get to be saved for some unkown reason that only God knows and is for His own good pleasure....because He chose them from the beginning of time - for whatever reason -

but you are upset because someone told you Catholics pray to Mary???

Paul reminds the righteousness of faith does not say from our heart who shall ascend to heaven, or who shall descend into the deep! God alone knows those who belong to Him.

Ro 10:6 But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from above:)
Ro 10:7
Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.)

We are told to search our own hearts to know if we are of faith.

2 Corinthians 13:5 (KJV) Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?

What I hate is all forms of false doctrine causing mankind to embrace idolatry that God forbids. It doesn't matter what denomination teaches false doctrine, born again believers are called to expose it. I'm not upset that those who embrace Catholicism pray to Mary! That is between them and the God they serve. I only become concerned when I see Catholics or any other denomination professing impure doctrine that has and shall continue to lead many people astray.

YOU are the one professing incorrect Catholic teaching.
Since I've been here I see Catholics teaching what the CC teaches,,,
and others making incorrect statement about the CC.

This is wrong.

Please properly state what the CC teaches
or
don't state anything at all.

My faith comes from hearing the Word of God; the gospel of the Kingdom of God through Christ. I've learned that doctrinal purity never forces contradiction into the Word of God. Sadly, the doctrine you espouse cannot claim their doctrine does not cause contradiction into God's Word. Like most false doctrine espoused, those who embrace it will find themselves constantly trying to justify the doctrine you believe is from the Word of God, while ignoring their doctrine forces contradiction into God's Pure and Holy Word.

Romans 10:17 (KJV) So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Romans 1:16 (KJV) For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

These passages below together affirm that God’s character is unchanging and His word is truthful, which is the foundation for the belief that the Bible, as God’s word, is not contradictory in its divine message. While some passages may appear to differ in wording or emphasis, believers interpret these differences through the lens of God’s consistent nature, historical context, and the purpose of each author, finding harmony rather than conflict.

Numbers 23:19 (KJV) God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?

Hebrews 6:18 (KJV) That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:

Psalm 119:160 (KJV) Thy word is true from the beginning: and every one of thy righteous judgments endureth for ever.

Hebrews 13:8 (KJV) Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

When a man or woman seeking biblical truth is honest enough to admit the doctrines we might embrace make God contradictory and untrustworthy, that is the first step in discovering doctrinal purity. We must first admit through self-awareness in our own studies or being shown by other Christians from the Bible that our doctrine cannot be true because the Bible is never contradictory.

We should do the same for our Catholic brethren even if they have some doctrine we don't agree with.

They also agree with the scripture you've posted BTW.

Here is why CATHOLICS....... pray to MARY. (Mary Cult).
-
-

View attachment 92107

A magazine cover is not evidence. It's a title chosen by an editor.

I'm asking for proof that Catholics worship Mary. Can you quote a Catholic catechism, council, or official teaching where the Church says Mary is God, equal to God, or should receive the worship due to God alone?

If not, then you're arguing against what you think Catholics believe rather than what Catholics actually teach.
