Romans 15:4 states: all the things that were written beforehand were written for our instruction, so that through our endurance and through the comfort from the Scriptures we might have hope.

There are 4 reasons that we can discern from this one verse alone; instruction, endurance, comfort and hope. Have you found the Bible to help you in these areas?

Yes provided it not the “Bible alone” and the meaning is from the teaching authority of Christ!

Truth must be revealed by God thru Christ to His church (the apostles Jude 1:3) then must be proposed by the church, (Matt 28:19 gal 3:23) without error by the Holy Spirit! (Jn 16:13)

Christ and His church are one! (Acts 9:4 eph 5:31 Jn 15:1-5)

Rejection of the one true church or its teaching is rejection of Christ and God!

Christ and His church are one! Acts 9:4 eph 5:32 Jn 8:12 & Matt 5:14

Amen Faith! Especially for those of us under the new covenant. But even those who have not yet dedicated themselves, or in some cases never will, the Bible can still benefit them, at least that is my opinion. I cannot recall one instance where a person starts reading the Bible that it makes them worse.

I see the Bible as a revelation. I find it instructive. But the point of the Bible is to help me know the Lord better. I would say it is the Lord that gives me comfort and hope, as I try to walk with him in my daily life. Paul taught us to pray constantly (1 Thessalonians 5:17), you might remember. As for endurence, I haven't yet found an easy way to endure.

No Bob, endurance is not always easy, but keep this in mind: (1 Corinthians 10:13) . . .God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear, but along with the temptation he will also make the way out so that you may be able to endure it.

He didn't say it would be easy, however He did say it would be no burden: (1 John 5:3) . . .For this is what the love of God means, that we observe his commandments; and yet his commandments are not burdensome,

I am sure if you think of all the occasions that you feel you can't endure and give in, you will see the way that He provided for your escape. I don't think I have ever been in a situation where there are no alternatives Bob, likely you feel the same way.
