[Matthew 12:15-21 KJV] 15 But when Jesus knew [it], he withdrew himself from thence: and great multitudes followed him, and he healed them all; 16 And charged them that they should not make him known: 17 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, 18 Behold my servant, whom I have chosen; my beloved, in whom my soul is well pleased: I will put my spirit upon him, and he shall shew judgment to the Gentiles. 19 He shall not strive, nor cry; neither shall any man hear his voice in the streets. 20 A bruised reed shall he not break, and smoking flax shall he not quench, till he send forth judgment unto victory. 21 And in his name shall the Gentiles trust.
I often wondered why Jesus told those he healed not to tell others.
I think it can be understood by the above passage.
[Matthew 15:24 KJV] 24 But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
At this dispensation of time Jesus was only going to the Jews.
[Matthew 12:16-17 KJV] 16 And charged them that they should not make him known: 17 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying,
Matthew 12:17 above tells us why he charged them not to make him known; it was to fulfill the saying of Isaiah. Jesus did not want to be known yet until such time as he would be made known to the Gentiles as seen in Matthew 12:18 and 21.
[Isaiah 49:6 KJV] 6 And he said, It is a light thing that thou shouldest be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved of Israel: I will also give thee for a light to the Gentiles, that thou mayest be my salvation unto the end of the earth.
Jesus would show salvation to the Gentiles, but not at that time.
[Acts 11:18 KJV] 18 When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.
Here salvation came to the Gentiles.
