Daniel 9:

27 And he shall make a strong covenant with many for one week, and for half of the week he shall put an end to sacrifice and offering. And on the wing of abominations shall come one who makes desolate, until the decreed end is poured out on the desolator.”
Jesus referred to the above passage in Matthew 24:

15 “So when you see the abomination of desolation spoken of by the prophet Daniel, standing in the holy place (let the reader understand), 16 then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.
Benson Commentary:

By which term is intended the desolating Roman armies with their standards. To every legion was a golden eagle with expanded wings, grasping a thunderbolt. These eagles, with the standards of the cohorts, ten in each legion, were objects of worship among the Romans, and therefore were an abomination to the Jews. We learn from Josephus, that after the city was taken, the Romans brought their ensigns into the temple, and placed them over against the eastern gate, and there sacrificed to them.

The 'thing' which makes desolate is misapprehending the character of God and substituting it with one of the imagination.

The parallel passage in Luke tells what was "the disgusting thing that causes desolation," which Daniel said would surround Jerusalem and the temple.

Luke 21:20 However, when you see Jerusalem surrounded by encamped armies, then know that the desolating of her has drawn near.

Matt. 24:15 Therefore, when you catch sight of the disgusting thing that causes desolation, as spoken about by Daniel the prophet, standing in a holy place (let the reader use discernment)

The detail of something disgusting surrounding to attack something supposedly "holy" is typical of the beginning of a tribulation.

Since there is still a "great tribulation" to come, that prophecy has ANOTHER fulfillment in the near future. Dan. 11:31-35 and Dan. 12:9,11 shows that a ‘disgusting thing causing desolation’ is connected with “the time of the end.”

Daniel 9:27 (...) “And on the wing of disgusting things there will be the one causing desolation; and until an extermination, what was decided on will be poured out also on the one lying desolate.”
... 11:31 And arms will stand up, proceeding from him; and they will profane the sanctuary, the fortress, and remove the constant feature. “And they will put in place the disgusting thing that causes desolation.
... 12:11 “And from the time that the constant feature has been removed and the disgusting thing that causes desolation has been put in place, there will be 1,290 days.

The Jews consider that this prophecy was fulfilled with the desecration of Jehovah's temple at Jerusalem in the year 168 B.C.E. by Syrian King Antiochus IV (Epiphanes), but this was only the Jewish interpretation of matters, not an inspired revelation.

Christ Jesus showed this view to be in error when he gave the warning to his disciples: “Therefore, when you catch sight of the displeasing thing that causes desolation, as spoken of through Daniel the prophet, standing in a holy place, (let the reader use discernment,) then let those in Judea begin fleeing to the mountains.” (Mt 24:15, 16) These words show that “the displeasing thing that causes desolation” was not then past but future. (Taken from Insight/Disgusting Thing)

To decipher the fulfillment of that prophecy with reference to the approaching great tribulation, we must identify what many religious people consider "holy" today, and what enemy of theirs, and how, is going to surround it until it is annihilated.

In the year 66 the Jews (not the Christians) considered the city of Jerusalem and the temple within it holy, and the enemy that surrounded and destroyed it was the Roman army; In the future, when the great tribulation is going to begin throughout the planet, who and what are those?

An abomination is an idol or unclean thing

which makes desolate means that unclean thing has rendered something desolate or unclean

Jesus said it would be standing in the holy place. (this refers to the holy place in the temple)

hence an abomination which causes desolation standing in the holy place would be an Idol which is placed in the holy place. rendering it unclean and causing sacrifice and burnt offering to cease

That is your personal interpretation ... but it doesn't agree with Jesus' words here:

Luke 21:20 However, when you see Jerusalem surrounded by encamped armies, then know that the desolating of her has drawn near.

Actually, when Daniel wrote the prophecy in his book, the temple in Jerusalem had already been destroyed by the Babylonians, so the prophecy did not point to a desecration of the "Most Holy" of the temple.

By the middle of the first century the temple was no longer a holy place for Christians.

Or, we can allow Scripture to directly interpret.

In Ezekiel 8, what caused God to withdraw His protecting presence and allow destruction and desolation to befall the city and the temple?

Sun worship.

The end times AoD has to do with "Sun worship" or more specifically, "Sunday" worship.

The words are closed up, ( not relevant until) until the time of the end.

The wicked do wickedly, ( not made white) and that is why none of the wicked shall understand, but the wise ( that this is to try them to purify them, and to make them white)

Daniel 12:9 And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end.
10 Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand.
11 And from the time that the daily sacrifice shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days.

It is the devils work, it is his ministers, placing the abomination that makes desolate.

We see in Daniel 12:10, NONE OF THE WICKED SHALL UNDERSTAND.

They do wickedly against the covenant, AS DANIEL 11:32 RECORDS, AND LOOK AT ROMANS 1:31, IT HAS BOTH FULFILLED IMMEDIATELY: WITHOUT UNDERSTANDING, COVENANT BREAKERS.

The evil antichrist spirit corrupts these people, ( MANY.) by flatteries.

2 Peter 2, LOOK AGAIN AND SEE MANY FOLLOW THEIR PERNICIOUS ( SUBTIL) WAYS, SPEAKING EVIL OF THE TRUTH. ( THE KING THAT DOES ACCORDING TO HIS WILL AND EXALTS HIMSELF ABOVE EVERY GOD/SPEAKS MARVELLOUS THINGS AGAINST THE GOD OF GODS/UNTIL THE INDIGNATION BE COMPLETE. Daniel 11:36/2 Thessalonians 2:4.)

They make merchandise of you, they speak evil of things they do not understand and shall utterly perish in their OWN CORRUPTION.. ( NONE OF THE WICKED SHALL UNDERSTAND.)

They speak great swelling words of vanity to ALLURE, ( MANY CLING TO THEM OF FLATTERIES/MANY FOLLOW THIR PERNICIOUS WAYS.) those who clean escaped from them, THEY PROMISE THEM LIBERTY ( FLATTERIES) while they are SERVANTS OF CORRUPTION. ( CORRUPT BY FLATTERIES)

Some of understanding are tried, to make them white, to purge even to the time of the end. ( it is yet for an appointed time/if a man purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, meet for the Masters use, prepared unto every good work.)

Romans 1:31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:

2 Timothy 2:21 If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work.

2 Peter 2:2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.
3 And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.

2 Peter 2:12 But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption;

2 Peter 2:18 For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error.
19 While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.

2 Thessalonians 2:4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.

Daniel 11:31 And arms shall stand on his part, and they shall pollute the sanctuary of strength, and shall take away the daily sacrifice, and they shall place the abomination that maketh desolate.
32 And such as do wickedly against the covenant shall he corrupt by flatteries: but the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits.
33 And they that understand among the people shall instruct many: yet they shall fall by the sword, and by flame, by captivity, and by spoil, many days.
34 Now when they shall fall, they shall be holpen with a little help: but many shall cleave to them with flatteries.
35 And some of them of understanding shall fall, to try them, and to purge, and to make them white, even to the time of the end: because it is yet for a time appointed.
36 And the king shall do according to his will; and he shall exalt himself, and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak marvellous things against the God of gods, and shall prosper till the indignation be accomplished: for that that is determined shall be done.

LET HIM WHO READS UNDERSTAND. (NONE OF THE WICKED SHALL UNDERSTAND)

Great tribulation, unless the days are shortened, none of the elect would be saved. ( for the elects sake, He has shortened the days)

False Christs arise, and false prophets. ( showing those lying wonders/signs of the antichrist)

Many false prophets rise to deceive many. ( MANY CLING TO THEM WITH FLATTERIES/MANY FOLLOW THEIR PERNICIOUS WAYS)

Iniquity bounds, which is the love of many gone cold. ( men are lovers of their own selves. 2 Timothy 3:2.) but to endure in all this UNTIL THE END ( tribulation/affliction) the same shall be saved.

This is the gospel preached FIRST in ALL THE WORLD, among all nations, for A WITNESS unto ALL NATIONS, THEN THE END SHALL COME.

Matthew 24:14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.

Matthew 24:15 When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:)

Matthew 24:21 For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.
22 And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened.
23 Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not.
24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.
25 Behold, I have told you before.
26 Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not.

Matthew 24:11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.
12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.
13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.

Mark 13:10 And the gospel must first be published among all nations.

Mark 10:13 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.
14 But when ye shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not, (let him that readeth understand,) then let them that be in Judaea flee to the mountains:

Mark 13:19 For in those days shall be affliction, such as was not from the beginning of the creation which God created unto this time, neither shall be.
20 And except that the Lord had shortened those days, no flesh should be saved: but for the elect's sake, whom he hath chosen, he hath shortened the days.
21 And then if any man shall say to you, Lo, here is Christ; or, lo, he is there; believe him not:
22 For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect.
23 But take ye heed: behold, I have foretold you all things.

The robbers of HIs people try to establish the vision, but they shall fall. ( THE SHEEP DID NOT HEAR THEM.)..

Daniel 11:14 And in those times there shall many stand up against the king of the south: also the robbers of thy people shall exalt themselves to establish the vision; but they shall fall.

John 10:8 All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them.
