For most of my life I had the furthest thing from an example of a sound mind. I lived in torment. Fearful, anxious, panicked, horrible at dealing with or accepting life's challenges. There was no peace, for sure. If I had to describe a panic attack in a few shorts words it would be: an overwhelming need to outrun. To outrun everything; to always be ever watchful and to remain in a constant fight or flight mode. There is no peace in that.
But a sound mind is a promise and it is true. God doesn't remove all the circumstances of life but He can very much change our responses to those circumstances. God offers a sound mind to everyone in "be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind." and "Continue in my word and the truth shall set you free." and "whom the Son sets free is free indeed." Consider the possessed man: Mark 5:15 [15] And they come to Jesus, and see him that was possessed with the devil, and had the legion, sitting, and clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid.
Consider the key there is "clothed". 2 Timothy 1:7-8 "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. [8] Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;"
With power which IS love and a sound mind.
But there is another key word there in 2 Timothy. "partaker". --"...but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;" The Spirit of love rather than the spirit of fear. 1 Corinthians 10:17 "For we being many are one bread, and one body: for we are all partakers of that one bread." Now consider this in light of
Hebrews 12:6-8 [6] For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. [7] If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? [8] But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.
We are all partakers: or we are bastards and not sons. He says every Son He receives.
"If ye endure".
What does Charity(the Spirit of love) do: "beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things." (1 Corinthians 13:7). Charity, the Spirit of love 'endureth' all things. Charity faints not. The spirit of fear faints when troubled on all sides.
Hebrews 12:9-10
[9] Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us , and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live? [10] For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness. --the flesh profits nothing. But, we, we know it is good to be in subjection unto the Father of spirits that we may live and be partakers.
Matthew 25:35-36
[35] For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: [36] Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.
I was hungry: and you feed me with the Word and bread from heaven. I was thirsty: and you gave me living water to drink. I was a stranger: and you gave me a home. (for in this we groan, to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven.) (2 Corinthians 5:3). I was sick: and you restored relationship with the Father and healed(closed) the breach. I was held captive in bondage: and you set me free. Mark 5:15 [15] And they come to Jesus, and see him that was possessed with the devil, and had the legion, sitting, and clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid.
Colossians 1:11-12
[11] Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness; [12] Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:
Romans 15:6-7
[6] That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. [7] Wherefore receive ye one another, as Christ also received us to the glory of God.
1 Corinthians 2:16
[16] For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.
1 Peter 1:13
[13] Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope(endure) to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
2 Timothy 1:7
[7] For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
God has not given us the spirit of fear.
God has given us the Spirit of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
Romans 8:14-16
[14] For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. [15] For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. [16] The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
