China’s second-largest housing firm in dire debt crisis; Taliban wants stronger China relations


America’s longest war is over. But why did the United States pull its troops out of Afghanistan? President Joe Biden says it’s to shift priorities to meet the China challenge. The Taliban describes the Chinese Communist Party as an old friend and says it hopes to foster even stronger relations. Another of China’s friendly relationships is deepening, too. Military leaders from Burma, also known as Myanmar, invited a Chinese representative to visit for the first time since the country’s coup earlier this year. One of China’s largest real estate companies is deep in debt, to the tune of $300 billion. But if the company goes bankrupt, it would send shock waves through China’s economy.
