Luke 5:21 - "The scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, Who is this man who speaks blasphemies? Who can forgive sins, but God alone?"

Matthew 11:2,3 - "Now when John, while imprisoned, heard of the works of Christ, he sent word by his disciples and said to Him, Are you the expected One, or shall we look for someone else?"

He got into reasoning. The flesh operates through reasonings. Reasonings always take the shape of questioning God.

Matthew 13:54-57 - "Returned to his hometown, and gave a lecture there in the meetinghouse. He made a real hit, impressing every one. “We had no idea He was this good!” they said. “How did He get so wise, get such ability?” But in the next breath they were cutting Him Down: “We’ve known Him since He was a kid; He’s the carpenter’s son. We know His mother Mary. We know His brothers James and Joseph, Simon and Judas. All His sisters live here. Who does He think He is?” They got their noses all out of joint. But Jesus said, 'A prophet is taken for granted in his hometown and his family.'”

Reasoning got the people in his hometown to a place to be offended. God’s will was for Jesus to do mighty works in Nazareth, but was prevented due to unbelief activated by the flesh.

Romans 8:7,8 - "(That is) because the mind of the flesh (with its carnal thoughts and purposes) is hostile to God, for it does not submit itself to God’s law; indeed it cannot. So then those who are living the life of the flesh ( catering to the appetites and impulses of their carnal nature) cannot please or satisfy God, or be acceptable to Him."

Following the flesh gives Satan access to your life. Following the spirit give God access to your life.

Romans 8:5 - "For those who are according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the spirit, the things of the spirit."

The flesh is a mind set – not a way of behavior. It is what you think that leads to the sinful act.
