Type “Holy Grail” into Google and … well, you probably don’t need me to finish that sentence. The sheer multiplicity of what any search engine throws up demonstrates that there is no clear consensus as to what the Grail is or was. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t plenty of people out there claiming to know its history, true meaning and even where to find it.

Modern authors, perhaps most (in)famously Dan Brown, offer new interpretations and, even when these are clearly and explicitly rooted in little more than imaginative fiction, they get picked up and bandied about as if a new scientific and irrefutable truth has been discovered. The Grail, though, will perhaps always eschew definition. But why?

The first known mention of a Grail (“un graal”) is made in a narrative spun by a 12th century writer of French romance, Chrétien de Troyes, who might reasonably be referred to as the Dan Brown of his day – though some scholars would argue that the quality of Chrétien’s writing far exceeds anything Brown has so far produced.

Chrétien’s Grail is mystical indeed – it is a dish, big and wide enough to take a salmon, that seems capable to delivering food and sustenance. To obtain the Grail requires asking a particular question at the Grail Castle. Unfortunately, the exact question (“Whom does the Grail serve?”) is only revealed after the Grail quester, the hapless Perceval, has missed the opportunity to ask it. It seems he is not quite ready, not quite mature enough, for the Grail.

Greek Orthodox believe Jesus wed Mary Magdalene in the narrative of the wedding at Cana.

The holy grail then being her womb and their offspring.
Fascinating thought. :)

Hello Amazed,

If by 'Greek Orthodox' you mean : those communities and bishops in union with the Patriarch of Constantinople,
Then i believe you are mistaken.
You might want to check your source.

Peace be with you!

If the writer of the gospel of Thomas was alive today, he'd be a perennial winner.

Though a lot smarter, these upper-class twits will receive the same judgement as everyone else.

Blasphemous thought would be more accurate.
A wonder indeed. I've graduated from heritic unto blasphemer. lol :)

There are no scriptures that yell us Jesus was not married.
There are scriptures telling us of his mom Mary informing him during the wedding at Cana that they had run out of wine.
But we're not told who the betrothed couple were.
And being concerned with such a matter is not something that would be the concern of a mere guest. Much less the guest mom, nor would the lack of wine.

Wine that Jesus made from water stored in stone jars. Not clay. Which means the homeowner, wedded party, were very well off.

Jesus appearing to his Jewish brothers as a man would have followed Jewish custom. Which means he would have married.
Messianic law rould have commanded marriage.

And it would explain why risen Jesus appeared to Mary Magdalene first.

Jesus 'married Mary Magdalene and had children', according to

This would certainly refute those notions proffered by some faithful who insist God's plan makes women inferior in the church.

When the other disciples hid from the authorities after Jesus crucifixion, Mary and his mother remained at the foot of the cross.
And Magdalene also knew where he was entombed.
Which is how she led the disciples to the tomb, after Jesus told her to deliver the news he had resurrected.

Who Was Mary Magdalene in the Bible?

I believe that there is some stuff inspired by God outside of the bible.
For instance...I believe God led me to the book of Enoch.
I've enjoyed listening to it on Apocryphile1970.
He has good information on the ten lost tribes of Israel, myself being a Naphtalian Levite, but I don't accept everything he posts.
Unless God leads one otherwise, it's probably best to stay within the bible.
Don't be scared, just be careful.

Enoch is spoken of in the OT And also Jesus refers to him in the New.

I found the book of Enoch at, Sacred Texts website. Love that site. And they have their library on flash. A gift when on vacation.

Thanks for the link. :)
