Ananias and Sapphira

3 But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?

5 And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things. - Acts 5:3,5.

Have you ever given much thought to why God after the cross - after the Resurrection - after Penecost - and the law was out and grace was in, he killed Ananias and Sapphira because they lied to the Holyspirit.

It seems very strange to say the least because nothing has changed since the day of Penecost. The way God handles his own offspring is still the same, under the same New Covenant. So the question is why would he do what he did and why does it not happen today when a believer sins or lies or fails God.

Does anyone have anything on ananias and Sapphira being killed after Grace was put in place?
Who has a take on what they believe is going on now in the age of Grace?

Reading through it, and hearing people speak about this incident. Many say God killed her.

My view is that What Peter told Ananias ~ Was so shocking she fell over and died (heart attack possibly?). Then gave up her spirit to God right then?

I do not think God killed her, yet it was a shock from what Peter had told her.

I could be wrong but that is just my view.

Yes it could be - just a strange dilemma for grace to be put in place and almost immediately a death (what looks like by reading scripture the Holyspirit taking them) and fear comes on the people.

They were in God's grace and lied to his holy spirit?

God did what He did for His purposes. We can make many educated guesses, but we jwon't know how right or wrong we are. We also do not know if this has not happened many times in this age of grace.

Ananias and Saphira had the consequence of their sins retained to them via Church discipline in Matt. 18. (whosever sins you retain, they are retained). If they were believers they went to heaven, but Peter under the power of the Holy Spirit caused both of them to experience the consequence of sin.
