Isaiah 9:6 foretells of our Savior. Basically, God killed His one and only Son for you and I.

Hebrews 12:24-26 basically says that God paid an incredible price to save us from His punishment. If, after all this, we still refuse Him, we are doomed. We'd better make sure that we understand, in detail, what He is talking about. Don't take on condemnation, but take Him seriously.
This should give you an idea of how God operates.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6 :)

hello, Ok I'm merciful totally in certain things that I understand but I'm not merciful in things that are considered worse offenses. I think there still should be a fair amount of punishment for that person if he/she does this or that but in the scriptures it says 'blessed are the merciful for they will be given mercy' and there's also a parable I recall where a man said something like he didn't have to pay anything back as the person couldn't afford it, whatever the word afford can be interpreted as or symbolize.

If they're talking about money then if someone couldn't afford it then I'd be able to let them go but first be wise about who I lend my money to. So if you pray to God and say "I pray this person receives mercy. he doesn't have to owe me back for anything for what he did, just only I ask for him to stop" then if everyone was like that then this person would probably re-offend and then God will punish 'vengeance is mine', right?

How does Jesus day we obtain mercy?
By works?

if I understand you correctly, we obtain mercy through following Jesus Christ, the Lord so yes, by doing the deed/work.

Matt 5:7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.

Luke 7:47
Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little.

Matt 6:12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

1 Peter 4:8
And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.

Ok let's put it this way- Jesus said 'Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do'
#1- they know not what they do (didn't really understand what they were doing was evil, they thought there was merit for it even though there was none but accusation)
#2- they did it and were happy about it so they weren't sorry = one doesn't have to be sorry before you forgive them
What does anyone have to say about this?
There is a passage:
Jhn 11:47 Then gathered the chief priests and the Pharisees a council, and said, What do we? for this man doeth many miracles.
Jhn 11:48 If we let him thus alone, all men will believe on him: and the Romans shall come and take away both our place and nation.
Jhn 11:49 And one of them, named Caiaphas, being the high priest that same year, said unto them, Ye know nothing at all,
Jhn 11:50 Nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not.

I believe these are the same guys that brought forth false witnesses to testify against Jesus.
They willingly conspired to kill him.

Then there are the crowds of people that listened to their leaders, their shepherds. And they also cried out Crucify Him!

I believe when Jesus said, Father forgive them for they know not what they do,
He was refering to the crowd that was blindly following the ones in authority.

And these authorities never asked for forgiveness. They were even willing to send Saul to kill his sheep.
But it wasn't the sheeps fault. They were being misguided.
And because Jesus had compassion on them he asked that they be forgiven.

As for the Pharisees and Saducees and High Priest tha misled them.. knowingly..

Somehow I see these guys getting a one way ticket to the pit of hell.

Those are just my thoughts.
Great topic and answers
Thank You
Hugs

Ask yourself whether Jesus punished anybody....that'll give you a picture of how God operates.

But will Jesus punish anyone? Yes.

He sends workers of iniquity to hell. Matthew 25.

And when Jesus returns it’s with flaming fire, a big sword and the wrath of God.

interesting!....he loves enough to give his life then if they don't care for it he becomes vengeful?. How does that fit in with a God who does not change....is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow?

Same way we have love, but still demand justice and punishment for criminals and lawbreakers.

our justice and punishment is arbitrary ie, do we jail him for 5yrs or 10yrs? God's justice is one of liberation...can we get our head around that?
When the multitudes cry for the rocks and the mountains to fall on them at Jesus return, they are saying, we would rather die than face the one who forgives.
