I actually had to apologize for that one Amadeus... because apparently I was not aware that Paul exhorted all believers to speak in tongues... so... MY BAD.... LOL
Not at all!
I think the signs and wonders were a Jewish thing, and an Apostolic thing, but the gifts of the Spirit are for us to grow by.

While I have been a tongue talker since 1976 and will not deny it, this thread is overwhelmed with details and arguments which, as I see it, are likely to confuse and driven some people away rather than draw them in closer to God.
I simply think of tongues as being similar to the parables of Jesus. They have a purpose, but not everyone can speak a parable or even understand one. If you are interested read Matthew chapter 13 beginning with verse 10 where Jesus explains about parables.
For me the similarity between speaking in parables as Jesus did and the speaking in tongues is striking, but I would not insist that everyone understand or believe as I do or follow as I do. God works with all of us in the way that He chooses.
We are different parts of the Body of Christ with different functions and God given us different abilities or gifts. We are also usually on different places along the highway of holiness walking toward the Light.
God understands each one of us! Who else does?
Probably no one else here is where Addy is in God. That does not mean that each one of us, you and me and those others, is not with God.

I made the comment somewhere at the beginning of this thread about you having this gift and using it daily... I have absolutely NO doubt that the Holy Spirit has given you the gift of tongues...

All I can say is, I am content at this time to be still and speechless if necessary.
If the Lord wants to loose my tongue for His Glory, Halleluia!
So many things going on in the world right now..
My tongue is probably best chained down for now..

You were right on the first half . but go back to the bible for the second half .
pard , i can somewhat speak in three langauges , just can i know spanish , DONT make that tongues
just cause i know german dont make that tongues . TONGUES is a real heavenly language
that can be UNDERSTOOD and heard in any langauge . MAN you had the first part SPOT ON RIGHT , but fell so short on the second part .
The mormons would agree with your second part . But i dont agree with the mormons .
TONGUES is a heavenly langauge . If i spoke in it , a german would hear it in his langauge , a china man in his , and so forth .
ITS HEAVENLY . Let us never heed the mormons .

It is bad when Hollywood has to stand up for God.
Tongues...that is just par for the course. Wait until you are in a church that the Holy Spirit has a presence so strong that you can nearly see the Holy Spirit and definitely feel it. Then you have healings and divine visitations....
Some of these people I think would fill their pants if something like that happened to them.
Do cessationists pray?

I feel bad for people that have never had a divine event occur in their lives. But do cessationists deserve any.

Not according to Isaiah who prophesied about tongues in 28:11,12 and also explained why they were given: For with stammering lips and another tongue [language] will he speak to this people. To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.
Paul quotes this passage in 1 Corinthians 14:21,22 to teach us that tongues are a sign to UNBELIEVERS, and unbelievers are not addressed in heavenly language!
In the Law [the Tanakh or OT] it is written, With men of other tongues and other lips will I speak unto this people; and yet for all that will they not hear me, saith the Lord. Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe.
The rest and the refreshing would be from the Gospel message given in many different human languages on the day of Pentecost. Yet when the Jews in Jerusalem heard the Gospel, only 3,000 were saved (although there may have been possibly 30,000 gathered for the feast of Pentecost).

Look at what paul even tells the corinthians . yes not all speak with tongues . But even in acts
the langauge the apostles were speaking Was heavenly . If i am speaking in tongues
a man from china will hear it is his own langauge , while another man from spain would hear it in his langague .
THEY KEY IS who can inteperet . NOT ALL can , just like not all speak it . BUT it aint the same as me just speaking spanish .
ANYONE can learn another langauge , NOT ALL can speak with tongues . DONT FOLLOW the mormons my friend
and DONT FOLLOW MOST ALL OF THESE CHURCHES EITHER . THEY INFECTED my friend .
INFECTED with doctrines of men . Some teach cessaionsim , some teach this or that , some teach the gifts but ABUSE THEM
and are not really following the SPIRIT .

MOST the modern day christain movies that so many love , ARE INFECTED WITH NEW AGE and an agenda to lead us in another direction
to another jesus and another gospel . I Know that stinks my friend . BUT ITS TRUE .

This has nothing to do with the Mormons. Just plain Bible exegesis. If tongues were a heavenly language then no human could interpret them. Since Paul (under God) insisted that there be interpretation it should be clear that these are human languages requiring interpretation.
Interpretation of tongues is a gift also. I don't know why God could not gift someone to interpret an heavenly language just the same.

I have a baptist friend, he is 80 years old.
All his life he has been arguing with full gospel people about "tongues" and the "gifts of te Spirit".
Never been happy in his home baptist church......going to full gospel churches off and on....dragging his wife with him.
Always going back to his "dead home church".
I have never in my life seen such unhappy people as these two.
When they get sick they want prayer, yet they don't believe in healing.
So difficult for these people to find a true happy life in Christ.
Always seeing trouble everywhere....in money....at work...you name it....there's trouble somewhere.
All they have to do is submit to the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit is not a doom and gloom Spirit.
That junk comes from satan, the thief, the liar, the deceiver.

I've gone over numerous translations, looked into the manuscripts in the original languages, and have read the writings of those who I know, from first-hand experience, administer the apostolic teaching, with signs and wonders following, and have learned that it does not absolutely say that everyone will get tongues, nor does it absolutely say that most will get tongues. It is ambiguous.
According to my understanding. And if your mother dresses you funny, then that's between you and her! Lol
