@JohnPaul You can maybe understand at least why the various young people with faith based tattoos with whom I have talked have seemingly wanted strongly to go to the parlor for Bible verse inkings that would be effective in starting conversations. (Even if you yourself wouldn't get any more ink.)
I would advise against it, as your body is your temple that belongs to God, I said I'm actually starting to like my tattoo again of Christ, because I feel when people see it they identify me as a Christian, but if I could turn back time I wouldn't have gotten any of them not even the head of Christ. So no I cannot understand it, I didn't get my tattoos for conversation pieces, I got them because I was young and stupid and thought they looked cool and wanted to show my belief of Christ, but one shouldn't wear his religion on his sleeve, in this case my chest.

... I have no problem with someone else getting one, if they like. Wouldn't bother me a bit.
@Cassandra All the young people with Bible verse tattoos with whom I have spoken seem to have had them done for evangelistic reasons. I can understand them thinking that using the tattoo parlor for this purpose is compelling.

I would like it on top of my hand. Where it could be seen. I have a half of one under my wrist at the moment but it never got finished.

@MatthewG Similarly, it's certainly a very strong wish to do it that ppl experience, isn't it? judging by others' comments:

it is becoming a norm with health professionals...It is becoming a tool people are using to let others identify their faith. ..I do like the idea of Christian based tattoos

I love the tattoo..the tattoo was not liberating - the tattoo represented the liberation and freedom that the Lord had brought me through.. I was 50 when I had mine done, and two of my sons had various tattoos long before me. I made the decision with a mature head on my shoulders.

almost every young girl I know has some sort of tatoo.
Even those very conservative types.

... I probably was about 22 when I got mine... I don't have any big regrets on it, but I wouldn't again.

I'm just too old now and don't really care for it.
@FluffyYellowDuck

You must know...

Big and black and bold can be striking and widely wanted:

But you must know first, right?

I am sure this person has a wonderful testimony to go along with her tat.

@Heart2Soul

Well, anyway, often there seems to be a really strong reason for ppl doing it...right?

One of the churches I go to has three quite elderly women, all widows, who recently went out and got themselves tattoos. .. There was no doubt they were all first tattoos. All three of them went out and got them together.

Idk, maybe if you're wearing a suit, but why as a Christian looking to walk with a sound mind and a sound heart, want to be appearing to walk with evil?

It is just vanity, in the end, isn't it? God is going to look at the heart, yes, but I think he would rather the things we show be his holiness and righteousness through our character and our deeds.

Like the child's song:
"This little line of mine,
I'm going to let it shine"

I don't need to be "cool" anymore. I would prefer to be humble and graceful.

I don't want my appearance to be what teaches people, because it would distract from what God has done in my life.

As Jesus said himself, "First clean the inside of the cup and dish, and then the outside also will be clean."

@FluffyYellowDuck Oh, great quotes there, indeed; but do you think it doesn't look good on her, then?

Most tattoo artist will apprentice for a year or so and do tattoos for free or a lesser charge until they start getting good.
@Mantis Okay.

Sounds like you yourself, however, have quite a bit of experience already so if you did start again you would fairly soon be able to charge more or less what you wanted, maybe?

Although I dislike tattoos, that one's okay as far as they go.

@Wynona Well, anyway, in the South now it's something that so many Christians and conservative ppl seem to do with quite some dedication. (As you would perhaps know...) Often it's Scripture that is inked in.

Around here (Bible Belt), it is common, especially among evangelical Christians, for the girls under about 40 to have religious tattoos. More do than don't, especially when you get to the under 30 crowd. I hardly know any female at church that is under 30 that does not have a tattoo.

I would be hard-pressed to come up with more than a handful of names of my friends who DON'T have at least one tattoo--and we are all suburban homeschooling moms, ages ranging from early-30s to mid-50s, living in conservative North Texas.
