Do you like colour in your home? Here in the UK the modern trend is for neutral colours in the home rather than colours. And I have been wondering if this trend could be a factor in the rising cases of depression as people life in grey rooms with grey carpets and black furniture.

I like colour and couldn't think of living in a room that was devoid of colour; I would find it very depressing, but lots of people prefer the greys.

I think you're on to something. I don't like white walls or grays. And I like color, but not loud colors ...if that makes sense. I love earth tones and a fair amount of wood, warm homey lighting (not stark white or blue light) ....maybe adding some accent colors in throw pillows and such, or books on a shelf or table.

Also, about depression.... I just got done watching a video by Dr Axe that mentions that brain/mind health is directly connected to gut health. People with poor microbiome in the gut tend to suffer more depression. Very interesting. Eating late at night (like after 7pm) disrupts digestive health. Also, looking at screens late at night decreases the body's natural serotonin and melatonin levels.

It is not just in the UK, but in the USA and Canada as well, and perhaps throughout the Western world. Everything is being manufactured in a washed down grey colour, which is really quite depressing.

I have often wondered why Canadian architects and builders never use bright, vibrant colours instead of the dark, depressing, and gloomy colours on buildings that they generally use (at least in Alberta). Especially with the long winters which we have. And they all have to follow the same trends. No one wants to be original any more.

As to the impact of colour on moods and attitudes, there is absolutely no question that brilliant colors enhance moods, and dull colours depress people. When the sky is dark and gloomy, attitudes change, and when there is bright sunshine, people are more upbeat.

One thing that can help is to open the blinds first thing in the morning to let sunlight in.

We have colors all over the place. Bright paintings, glass sculptures, cloth butterflies, all sorts of stuff, and a row of cut crystals on the eves outside our livingroom window to fill the walls with rainbows at the right time of day. My wife and I both love all sorts of color.

Much love!

Same as mark. There’s plenty of color and flowers in my house. My wife does a great job with decorations because if it was up to me, it’d be very dull. I used to prefer minimalism but life is a mess and full of color.

A friend of mine is going to Jerusalem in a couple of weeks and I’ve asked him to get some paintings, icons and crosses for me.

Letting in the light is so important. There are people in bedsits near me sho never open their curtains. I pray for them because they can't be in a good place.

God gave us colour and I love to use it - in my home and in my clothes.

There used to be a variety of colour in vehicles but today they are predominately black, grey or white. Same with clothing - there are a lot of neutral shades around, and black which only used to be for funerals and the LBD for smart occasions.

And depression seems to be on the increase here in the UK. And I really wonder if there is a link.

@Pearl From another perspective, my wife does not feel properly dressed when going out if she does not put on her face...

I gave up doing that many years ago. But I still love my earrings.
