33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. - John 16:33.
Take note: of the words "in me."
Overcoming the world by Christ in you: The world doesn't need to change in order for you to overcome the world. A fellow said to me one time 'I'll be glad when we get back to living like the days of Adam and Eve in the garden.' But what we know about the garden is - it had some pitfalls in it. It was not the paradise we would suppose.
First: It had a tree in it that you could not eat from..and if you did you would die. Adam didn't even know what death was . He had never experienced death. Death didn't exist in Adam's world. So when he was told not to eat from the tree and he was tempted to eat from it. You can hear Adam say "how bad could death be."
Second: It had Satan in it. You can read and see an outcome with Satan in Adam's world that would turn the world upside down. A revolution came to the world and by the change in the world - the lieing spirit took the world and the creation of God in the world.. captive by sin. By the sinning rebel nature of the original sinner himself 'Satan,' the world (by humanity) would contain a; sinning-death-rebel-nature-spirit-life, and enmity with the Creator. So the garden is really the last place you want to go back to.
8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. - 1 John 3:8.
This is; THE MESSAGE written on sin, and where it comes from and how it comes into the world and how Jesus Christ destroyed (killed out-crucified-on the cross-all in Adam) sin in the world.
Understand; sin does not come from Adam - it only comes through Adam into the world. Adam is not the sinner.. Satan is the sinner from the beginning. Adam partook of that sin and became a sinner by nature. But never was Adam the original root of sin - that sin comes from Satan. That is good news for humanity that lives under condemnation of sin.
12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: - Romans 5:12.
Our text verse of overcoming is the way out of sin. Not by changing the world - but by changing the nature of the human being! Humanity is exchanged at the cross. Death to sin (all in Adam crucified in Christ).
For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead: - 2 Corinthians 5:14.
We overcome the world by "Christ in you." That is how you get the new nature - it is a Christ in you nature. That is what you received the moment you believed on the Lord Jesus Christ! A new nature. Old things are passed away, and behold all things become new.
17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. - 2 Corinthians 5:17.
