Hi guys. Here's a copy/paste from an email I received from a ministry in the US.
We've now learned that not only do nearly 700,000 Americans die of heart disease every single year because of diet and lifestyle, but also a virus can come along, exploit a diseased and dying population, and take another 700,000 to their grave in a year.
It is uncomfortable to say it, but even more uncomfortable to NOT say it: 94.5% of the COVID deaths happened to people with comorbid conditions, 4 conditions on average.
It is a loving thing to gently point out that weight management is a matter of life and death.
Not just during COVID, but every year. Never forget that for many years before the pandemic response changed everything (everything except our diet, of course), we were witnessing that same scale of carnage every single year because of our diet and lifestyle. And that's just heart disease, not to mention other lifestyle diseases!
But there are other very encouraging reasons to work on our diet.
I love what my friend Chad Kreuzer shares. Research has demonstrated that for each serving of fruits/vegetables you add to your diet you get a measurable boost of happiness!
In other words, God gave us a diet that helps us to thrive, to grow spiritually, and to shrink at the waistline - all to improve our health and happiness.
This is the first in a series of newsletters on the topic, so we'll leave it at that for now and share the 2 ways to lose 1 pound. Here they are:
#1. If calorie intake remains consistent, it takes the average person 35 miles of exercise (either jogging or walking) to lose 1 pound.
#2. If physical exertion (i.e. burning of calories) remains consistent, it takes a 3500 calorie deficit (over whatever period of time) to lose 1 pound.
Interesting that they both involve the number 35! Which is easily divisible by 7 for the seven days of the week.
So let's do the math, and apply both options to a week's time.
Assuming that at the moment you've been neither gaining nor losing weight, in order to lose one pound PER WEEK you can either:
...walk 5 EXTRA miles per day for seven days beyond your current physical activity (while keeping calorie intake consistent)...
OR
...eat, for seven days, 500 LESS calories per day than you've been eating. (As an example, one cup of ice cream contains about 500 calories.)
Either of those will cause 1 pound of fat to disappear over the course of a week.
So. Which is the easiest option?
