The greatest heresy!

Justification by “faith alone”!

Holy apostolic council of Trent by the authority of Jesus Christ!

If any man says that you may be justified by faith alone let him be anathema!

A sacrament is an outward sign for all men including infants And a gift from God to help us see what he does inwardly and invisibly by his grace!

As grace Washes our souls in the merits of Jesus blood from original and personal sin, so the outward action of washing is visible!

without the outward action the inward action cannot take place!

Jn 3:5 Titus 3:5 water and washing
acts 22:16 wash away your sin!

Jn 3:5 Born again BY water and the spirit! Not by “faith alone”!

They did not go to Jerusalem and preach “accept Christ as you’re personal Lord and savior “

They went to the river (water) and they baptized! Jn 3:22

A covenant requires an outward sign of the inward action of grace!

Ez 36:25 I will sprinkle you with clean water and you shall be made white as snow.

Acts 22:16 washing away your sins.

Eph 4:5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism.

1 pet 3:21 baptism saves you.

Baptism!

God breathed life into Adam, gen 2:7 and we received this life from our fathers!

Christ breathed on the apostles our spiritual fathers, we receive the new covenant life of God’s grace from them thru faith & baptism! Jn 20:21-23 Mk 16:16 acts 8:36-38 eph 2

Born again! Born from above!

'The Father has set his seal' on Christ (John 6:27) and also seals us in him (cf. 2 Corinthians 1:22; Ephesians 1:23, 4:30). Because this seal indicates the indelible effect of the anointing with the Holy Spirit in the sacrament of Baptism,

Baptism indeed is the seal of eternal life." 87 The faithful Christian who I has "kept the seal" until the end, remaining faithful to the demands of his Baptism, will be able to depart this life "marked with the sign of faith," 88 with his baptismal faith, in expectation of the blessed vision of God - the consummation of faith - and in the hope of resurrection.

St. Paul tells the faithful at Ephesus that they have been “sealed with the promised Holy Spirit.” This is in terms of an indelible character imprinted on the soul in the sacraments of baptism and confirmation. It is not as if this invisible mark is simply decorative. Rather, through it, we are enabled to participate in Christ’s mission and in his offices of priest, prophet, and king. Eph 1:13

Sealed by God eph 1:13 sealed by God (ez 36:25-27) in the ark of salvation by baptism just as Noah was sealed by God in the ark of the flood gen 7:16

1 Pet 3:20 Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.

21 The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us!
(Ark of Noah a type of the church, member of Christ and his church and salvation by baptism!)
(Outside the ark of Noah none were saved, outside the church (the ark of salvation) none are saved!)

Sealed in the ark, sealed in the church the ark of salvation by God thru baptism!

Faith and baptism!

Scripture says none of the things about “Faith alone”!

“Faith alone”

Questions

where does scripture says we have died with Christ by “faith alone”?

Rom 6:3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?

where does scripture say we are members of Christ and his church by “faith alone”?

1 Corinthians 12:13
For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.

where does scripture says we put on Christ by “faith alone”?

Galatians 3:27
For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.

Where does scripture say our sins are washed away by “faith alone”?

Acts 22:16
And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.

where does scripture say we are saved or justified by “faith alone”?

1 pet 3:21 The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us!

The only reference in scripture to “faith alone” is James 2:24 NOT BY “FAITH ALONE”?

2 pet 1: 11 For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

How can you enter by your own if it must be ministered to you? Baptism is done unto you, “not do it yourself by faith alone”

Jn 3:5 born again by faith alone?

Where is “Accept Christ as your personal lord & savior” is not found in scripture?

They did not go preaching this line but went immediately to the river and baptized Jn 3:22

Acts 22:16
And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.

1 Corinthians 12:13
For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.

Galatians 3:27
For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.

Eph 4:5 one baptism not faith alone

Phil 1:29 called to suffer and not faith alone!

Why don’t it say one teeny tiny little act of “faith alone”???

When we first believed we are saved?

Romans 13:11
And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.

How can salvation be nearer than when we first believed if you’re saved by believing?

If salvation is by “faith alone” then faith would be the greatest!
1 cor 13:13 charity is the greatest!

Even all faith much less “faith alone” without charity avails nothing!
1 cor 13:2

I think you guys are talking past each other. Both of you seem to agree that one is justified by faith (although I'm not entirely convinced you both mean the same thing by "justified"). But is it by faith ALONE? Ron says yes, @theefaith says no.

Think of it this way: a man whose kidneys are failing gets dialysis, and the dialysis keeps him alive. Ron would say that the dialysis saved him -- and Ron would be correct. But did dialysis ALONE keep him alive? @theefaith would say that lots of other things did too (nutrition, for example; he had to eat to stay alive) -- and @theefaith would be correct.

I'd urge you guys to focus on the ALONE part of this debate. But first, make sure you both mean the same thing by "justified" here. Perhaps your theological differences will end up being just linguistic differences.

One more comment: @theefaith, why are you pointing to the Council of Trent in support of your argument? You surely know that non-Catholics don't buy the infallibility of such pronouncements. Are you posting here just for Catholics?

Thanks for the mediation. I use the standard biblical definition of justification:

dikaioō δίκαιος (G1342)

Dictionary Aids
Vine's Expository Dictionary: justify (37x), be freed (1x), be righteous (1x), justifier (1x).
Outline of Biblical Usage [?]
  1. to render righteous or such he ought to be

  2. to show, exhibit, evince, one to be righteous, such as he is and wishes himself to be considered

  3. to declare, pronounce, one to be just, righteous, or such as he ought to be
My righteousness is through faith in the shed blood of Jesus! Apart from any work I can do.

thanks

I think the is the insistence on the word alone when they really don’t mean alone!

example of Luther: a man is justified by faith alone, but that faith is not alone! That’s why we say Protestantism is mental illness!

scripture clearly says otherwise:

Faith alone! That means faith alone! Period!
No sacraments ez 36:25-27 Mk 16:16 Jn 3:5 acts 2:38-39 acts 8:36-38 Titus 3:5 1 pet 3:20-21
No obedience of faith rom 16:26
No repentance Lk 3:3
No suffering Mk 8:34 Mk 10:21 Phil 1:29
No hope rom 8:24
No charity 1 cor 13:2 1 cor 13:13
No love of God duet. 6:5
Prayer matt 7:7
No grace Jn 1:16-17
No patience Heb 10:36
No nothing but faith alone!
Alone means alone!

Rom 8: 24 For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for?

25 But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.

Three things are eternal (and therefore inseparable) faith, hope, & charity, and the greatest of these is charity! 1 cor 13

And never “faith alone”!

Rev. 2 I know thy works! I thought faith alone is all that mattered?

Heb 10:36 For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.

Heb 12:4 Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin.

How can salvation be by faith alone in Christ alone thru grace alone?

Faith alone?

1 cor 13:2 and 13:13, Phil 1:29, James 2:24 Mk 16:16 Jn 3:5 Titus 3:5 oppose faith alone!

1 cor 13:2 “all faith” without charity avails nothing, nada!

“Faith alone” is heresy!
Hersey is treason against God!

Or Christ alone: when scripture clearly says otherwise.

John 5:24
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

Romans 4:24
But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead;

Not Christ alone must also believe on the Father who sent Christ!

anyone!

The false doctrine of the “Bible alone” rejects Jesus Christ and his teaching authority in his apostles in holy church councils, dogmas and decrees etc.

Councils, dogma’s, and decrees of the church are binding on all the faithful and are equal not only to scripture but to Christ!!!

Lk 10:16 16 He that heareth you heareth me; and he that despiseth you despiseth me; and he that despiseth me despiseth him that sent me.

Jn 20:21 as the Father sent me, so I send you! (The apostles and their successors have the SAME mission, ministry, power, and authority as Jesus Christ!

To reject Christ teaching authority in his church is to reject Christ! Lk 10:16

2 Timothy 2:12

Holy apostolic council of Trent by the authority of Jesus Christ! "If any man says that you may be justified by faith alone let him be anathema!"
The Council of Trent established the fact that the Catholic Church hates the true Gospel, and labels everyone a heretic who rejects their false beliefs. The Council of Trent was neither "holy" nor "apostolic".

Eph 4:5 one baptism

Why don’t it say one teeny tiny little act of “faith alone”???

When we first believed we are saved?

Romans 13:11
And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.

How can salvation be nearer than when we first believed if you’re saved by believing?

If salvation is by “faith alone” then faith would be the greatest!
1 cor 13:13 charity is the greatest!

Even all faith much less “faith alone” without charity avails nothing!
1 cor 13:2

The Council of Trent established the fact that the Catholic Church hates the true Gospel, and labels everyone a heretic who rejects their false beliefs. The Council of Trent was neither "holy" nor "apostolic".

yours is another gospel, 1500 years late!

That’s a novelty!

The false doctrine of the “Bible alone” rejects Jesus Christ and his teaching authority in his apostles in holy church councils, dogmas and decrees etc.

Councils, creeds, dogma’s, and decrees of the church are binding on all the faithful and are equal not only to scripture but to Christ!!!

If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us:

A dogma of the Catholic Church is defined as "a truth revealed by God, which the magisterium of the Church declared as binding on all the faithful, Dogma is the divinely revealed truth, declared as such by the infallible teaching authority of Jesus Christ in His holy church!

Dogma! Or De Fide! Or Thee faith!

The faith of Christians!
An inconvertible unchallengeable truth revealed by God!
Truth like God who revealed it is immutable! Unchangeable!

Christ is the truth! Jn 14:6
The church is the pillar of truth! 1 Tim 3:15

The one true church founded by Christ on the authority of the apostles is ir-reformable!

Hebrews 13:8
Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

Christ and his church are one! Acts 9:4 eph 4:5

Not at all. shame on you ! It guards the church from false teachings by showing whatr is acceptable. The church's job is not to add new things down through the centuries but simply to preach, preserve, protect and pass on the scriptures as they were written without comment.

the heavens are not a book chapter and verse nor is the word of God limited to scripture!

And which scripture?
How do we know what is the inspired word of God, and what not?

Christ is the truth! Jn 14:6
the church is the pillar of truth!
1 Tim 3:15

Christ and his church are one! Acts 9:4 eph 5:32

Christ commanded his church to teach all men Matt 28:19 without error Jn 16:13

same mission ministry power and authority as Christ Jn 20:21

his witnesses to the end of the earth acts 1:8

This is a tricky subject that your posting about. On one hand we have salvation only from God. On the other hand we have works meet for repentance. Some might not be saved if they don't repent. That much appears to be clear when reading the scriptures. I think in the end God will decide whom he will save regardless of what we do. And yet we should always be encouraged to provide good works. A sweetness for God. And I think that's what it comes down to. God alone is the judge. But hopefully the saints and angels want us to be with them in heaven.
