While I wouldn't do it myself, and I don't necessarily think it's wise, I would also judge no man because of it.

We walk according to love, that is, love the Lord your God and your neighbor, and as circumcision is of no avail, I also think tatoos are not in and of themselves evil. I don't suggest it, but I don't judge it either, and would love a brother just the same. It is the spirit that is in us that makes us one, and can change our character to be like our Lord's. :)

I gotta tattoo, my pastor has several and I think his girlfriend even has some. But don't worry... Most of the time it's covered up with our clothing from mixed cloth! So if you want to see the tattoos, then look at our flesh, and you can see them. God ain't looking at the flesh though.

God instructed that they do not follow suit in their religious practices.

The Jews had a terrible habit of incorporating the religious practices of other groups or nations, up to and including the sacrifice of children.
These were God's requirements to be used as a guideline for not following the practices that he does not condone.

I believe you're right, Foreigner, but I think it goes deeper than that. God gave us this "body" (I'm talking about our fleshly bodies) and while it is sinful flesh, it's what God wanted us to have. Getting tattooes is just like cutting your hair, wearing makeup or getting plastic surgery. It's rebelling against what God gave us. It is covered by Grace though.

That's Old Testament commandment. But what I would ask is why would a Christian want a tattoo? What is it that they would want to display on his or her that would be that important get one? And wouldn’t be drawing attention to one’s self?

I don't want to come across as a bigot here. I would like to caution though that those things stay on the flesh a long time!

Would you agree all three have to do with vanity? Cutting hair may serve a useful purpose in that it becomes cumbersome after a while, but most people (especially women) don't cut their hair because it's in the way.

I am not wrong. However, you are wrong in what I said. I did not say they were suffering from vanity. I said all three (hair cutting, makeup and tattoos) have something to do with vanity.

That's what happens when we try to put new wine into old wine skin. In other words, mixing Old Testament Covenant Commandments with New Testament Covenant Commandment, which is to love each other.

tattoos in and of themselves are neutral. it is why you want them and what you do with them and ect that will determine whether they are good or bad. i know a guy that gets tattoos to remind him what God has done in his life. his tattoos are his testimony. if you are getting them because they look nice or because you want to fit in or whatever it is wrong. we need to look at the motive behind why we are getting them.

btw if you look at the context of lev 19:28 you will find that God is talking about what the other nations do that God does not want isreal to copy. put that context in today's society and it is saying we are not to be as the world but transformed by the renewing of out souls. we are to do Godly things which are things God approves of and not because of the reasons the world does them.

remember that paul stated that he put more limits on himself to make sure someone did not see him doing something that they thought was wrong but because they happened to see paul do it they did it too and so paul unwittingly made that man stumble.into sin by going against his own consciousness(i used paul as an example).1 cor 8:4-13
