Do you seek to have praise from men/women in this life?
In the Jewish Culture, the Jews being used of God - had their own ideas of what should be done or should not be done according to their fleshly standards that they had heaped upon them. Sometimes in Culture as a whole this is implemented take example Christian culture, and the differences of opinions, thoughts, ideas, and beliefs.
One says this; the other says that.
One says this the way it is - say you must be baptized with water - and if someone else is not dunked in to the water - they are not even saved, but the one who is praise be to them in that culture group of people.
In the Jewish sense this was true in that time in age - where if you were not Circumsized in the flesh you were not part of the covenant made with God thus it lead to the people being prideful over others.
I believe in the context of todays age it is not wrong to give appreciate to another individual who may be a family member, a friend, a co-worker, even an enemy. It is not healthy to live a life trying to seek to please people - though we are to love people at it is. But to seek to please God, by loving God and loving other for who they, even if they are not Christian, and even if they make horrible choices in their own individual life.
Love is a hard tough and rough road to travel but it was Jesus commanded.
