3-23. CALVARY AND PENTECOST
"But now that you have been set free from the tyranny of Sin, and have become the bondservants of God, you have your reward in being made holy" (Romans 6:22, Wey.).
When the believer truly sees Calvary he says, "There, through the work of the Cross, I died with the Lord Jesus unto sin." When the believer truly sees Pentecost he says, "There, through the ministry of the Holy Spirit, I was baptized into the risen Lord Jesus." Here are the two mighty pillars of our freedom from the power and domination of sin.
"The believer is to rejoice in the double blessing of Calvary and Pentecost. He is freed from condemnation because of the Blood shed, and he is set free from the law of sin and death by the indwelling Spirit that he received when he came to the Lord Jesus. It is not only that there is no condemnation, but there is liberty.
"'The law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death' (Romans 8:2). '...hath made me free....' Let me walk in it; let me enjoy it, and I am free. I am not struggling to get free; I have been set free in the Spirit, and I am bidden to stand fast in the liberty wherewith Christ has made me free (Galatians 5:1). I am not struggling for victory; I am standing in victory. I have not to struggle to get out of the horrible pit. He lifted me out; set my feet on the Rock and established my goings; and He bids me, 'Stand fast in the victory that I have gained for you.' Believe and rejoice in it, and you will know what it is to be free." -G.G.
"Walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit" (Romans 8:4).
3-24. PATTERN OF MERCY
"That He might make known the riches of His glory on the vessels of mercy, which He had afore prepared unto glory" (Romans 9:23).
Mercifully, day by day, He unfolds before our startled eyes the evil depths of the self-life. It is thus we come to know Him as the "God who is rich in mercy," and ourselves as "vessels of mercy."
"Today sinful men, not angels, are entrusted with the preaching of the Gospel, and before they can be used of God must first of all have plumbed the depths of their own sinfulness, and have, therefore, discovered the heights and glories of God's longsuffering. In this way they can become a pattern of His mercy, by means of which He can demonstrate His grace to others." -J.C.M.
"The power effectively to present Christ as Lord, is by means of revelation deep within us, bringing into being an unshakable knowledge of His authority and might, and making us content to accept our weakness and nothingness in order that we may see the pleasure of the Lord prosper in His hand (Isaiah 53:10)." -J.C.M.
"The more useful anyone is, the more he requires to be brought to an end of himself, and to find that his all is in the Lord Jesus. We find some of His servants deeply chastened at first, in order to prepare them for a useful course; and some after a useful period are brought low and afflicted in order that they might learn how truly and fully our Father is sovereign." -J.B.S.
"From Me is thy fruit found" (Hosea 14:8).

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 2 Tim 2:15

Net, I do hope your stay here is a long and fruitful one. Should this be so, I look forward to seeing your own personal growth and labour of love in the Gospel.

I will refrain my correcting anothers work.

Insight, I understand your compassion for God's word and appreciate your comments but I believe it's good to share what you believe, even if it seems to be in the catagory of disagreement on an issue. Two can disagree without arguing, this is one way God teaches us His word, by not depending only on our own understanding. Pro 3:5

I use much of the spiritual growth teachings from Miles Stanford which I've been studying for ten years and the material been the most useful to me. that's why I share it.

Why would you study the work of experts when you know it is these men who have deceived many?

Take our Phil 2:6, 9 discussions. I have endeavoured to open the Word for you to look inside, but you run back to the experts for understanding.

The Word of God is the sole source of truth and when questions are provided that challenges your understanding, rather than referring back to these men, you ought to ponder, mediate and examine these matters for yourself.

Otherwise you will never grow or come to knowledge of truth.

I don’t see ourselves arguing although I may press you hard on certain points of difference, I do so, to show a more complete understanding based in His Word and not the many doctors of theology.

I am quietly hoping you will examine the “exalted” question of Phil 2:6,9 which I believe contradicts your understanding of who Christ is and was.

I'm sorry friend but I still don't understand enough yet by what you mean concerning "the exhaulted position" except for repeating myself.

Allow me to repeat myself.

Phil 2:6,7 clearly teaches you that Jesus Christ decided to come under the Mighty Hand of Yahweh and be a servant - in others word he choose not to usurp His authority as Eve did in the garden through sin.

Phil 2:8 teaches you that Jesus humbled himself and being a man (dwelling in sins flesh and blood) became obedient to death.

As a result of his obedience God highly exalted him to a position you believe he already attained previously to his earthly life.

Phil 2:9 provides you with a number of questions.
  1. What was Jesus’s name before his given name here in Phil 2:9?
  2. How could he have been exalted to the right hand side of the Father if he already held this office beforehand?
  3. If you believe Jesus was already exalted before his birth, please define the difference between his newly exalted position now, compared to that prior to his birth.

I look forward to your response

Hi Insight. I don't believe the word "usurp" can find proper use concerning His authority because His authority never required to obtain by wrongful force, which is what usurp means. Maybe you meant another word?

His name before being incarnate was the same as it will be when He returns, "The Word of God". Jhn 1:1, 14; Rev 19:13.

Love You In Christ

Net,

Usurp is in perfect context here.

Usurp to mean:
  • To take over or occupy without right (i.e The forbidden tree)
  • To seize another's place, authority, or possession wrongfully
Did Eve usurp God's authority in the Garden? Gen 3:6

However, even though Jesus is the Son he never claimed that authority as Eve did.

In other words, he consciously made himself lower, as to not allow himself to “grasp” up at that which was not his to take.

If your mind just went to Eve grasping at the fruit then your mind would be in spiritual harmony with Paul and you would have just understood the meaning of Phil 2:6,7,8,9.

"And He is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all [things] He might have the preeminence." Col 1:18.

He being the first and chief over all persons, angels, and men. Since He has always been deity, being the Creator, He has been and always will be in essence, higher than any of that which isn't deity. Remember, the Father can not be honored without the same honor to His Son.

"That all should honor the Son just as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him." Jhn 5:23

Not saying we're not doing this but just wanting to ensure that we're aware of this.

Eph 3:9 is another passage that detracts Christ's diety because the Minority Text omits the phrase "through Jesus Christ."

Should read, "And to make all see what [is] the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the ages has been hidden in God who created all things through Jesus Christ."

Who made him chief?
And on what basis does he now hold this positon at the right hand side of the Father?

Insight, nothing can break my love for you but I'm starting to wonder if we are in the same religion. Unless I don't understand your last question because it's common knowledge scripturaly that Jesus, who is the Word and Son of God, is at His right hand. Can I ask, are you of a non-Christian religion?

Net,

I will make it earier for you.

The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. [sup]4[/sup] So he became as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is superior to theirs. Heb 1:3,4

On what basis did Jesus ascend the Heavens?

Read, pray, question, pray again, ponder and then consider responding

God bless in your endeavour.

Insight, I'm glad I misunderstood you. I thought your questions might have meant you didn't agree that Jesus is at God's right hand.

Who made him chief? And on what basis does he now hold this positon at the right hand side of the Father?

His own spirit (not the Holy Spirit) has always been in heaven while He was on Earth because being deity He too is omnipresent.
"And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but He that came down from heaven, [even] the Son of man which is in heaven."

The KJV is the only translation the retains the phrase, "who is in heaven" because it mostly confers with the Majority Text, unlike the others which do not.

Christ was be said to be "made so," when he was manifested and declared to be so. Not that He was just made to be exhalted but that He's always been exhalted. By the angels before creation and then by man after creation.

I believe what Christ had before coming here, He also retained here, except now with a physical body instead of just being spirit, as the Father and Holy Ghost will always be.. In this way, Christ will eternally relate to us in His physical form, as we shall always be.
"Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto His glorious body, according to the working whereby He is able even to subdue all things unto Himself." Phl 3:21.

In other words, His exaltation has always existed and creation has made it known. The words "made to be" can also refer just to His body, which is new, but unlike ours, His spirit has always existed.

Again I ask you "on what basis was Jesus exalted to the right hand of the Father" it a very simple answer one which I thought you would know. It was the cause for his exaltation, name, and position in the heavens.

Heb 5:7,8,,9,10 Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared; Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him; Called of God an high priest after the order of Melchisedec.

On what basis was Jesus exalted?

Heb 5:7,8,9,10 (unanswered)

Thanks for the greeting Net.

Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dies no more; death has no more dominion over him. Rom 6:9

Any ideas?
