Many churches today sweep the destitute under the rug, and ignore them, But Jesus made his home with the destitute. His followers included prostitutes, fishermen, Shepherds, Tax collectors and Publicans, The dregs of society at the time. His enemies and opposition came from the entitled religious leaders who eventually led Him to the cross.

When we as believers are afraid to reach out to the destitute, we are failing to reach out the ones who Christ loved the most in his lifetime on earth. When we fail to reach out to the destitute, we place ourselves on a podium that says we are better than them and fail to see we are nothing without Christ Jesus. Religious pride has crept in, and Satan has won the victory over us as we look down from high places on the downtrodden.

The Blood of Jesus has the power to save them just like it has saved us. Reach out to the downtrodden, show the Love of God to them, you might gain a brother or sister in Christ, a loyal friend or even a love of your life. Yes, this is hard to do, to stoop down and help the one who has been robbed of all dignity, but when we realize that we are the vessel for the Love of God to be perfected in this world, we see it is our duty to love them.

The Point of this post is to share how you have been moved to help others in need. There are many out there, and many more will be among them as inflation is robbing all of us of our wealth and independence. Soon, many of us will be there as well, and all we will have is each other to lean on as the black horse rides with unjust scales.

Thank you.
Too many times we forget this is not our home and we get comfortable and complacent here, failing to fulfill our mission in Christ.

We were once as they are Paul stated and yet only Christ can help us all rise above. We must show his love and sacrifice that others may know him also !

Hi David,
Right before our very eyes people are getting more and more desperate. In my neighborhood I spend time at a community center/soup kitchen/pantry. I see the homeless all the time around here. Sleeping on bench's, in bushes, under bridges.
A big Corp. is buying up property on the main St. here and, things like fancy coffee shops and clothes and other places are opening up. These folks in this immediate area could never afford what they charge for even a cup of coffee.

Many have (a close friend amongst them) been put out of their apartments because the new owners have their plans. My friend and her husband were in that same apartment for 33 years. And several other acquaintances told me they too had to be out by a certain time. This has been happening gradually for years but, it is now so transparent I have a concern for our Center if the people have to move on to somewhere else. So sad.
Pray for our poor.

agreed, a lot of these people are not drug addicts or drunks that are being forced out, but people who are facing hard times due to runaway real estate prices etc. Some places in California and other states have shanty towns forming of homeless people living on the streets. I Believe it was Mother Theresa who said " the poor are Jesus in disguise".... think about that.

Entitled Christians......yup, I'm one! A Prince of the Kingdom....and in case you don't know it, so are you.
Jesus became one of us so that we might become like him. Can you
believe it?

Revelation 3:21 “To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.”
ie, overcame self exaltation.

Ohhh, you mean folk who feel holier than thou?.......well,
they've hardly overcome have they? ...or maybe they're overcome with self importance? :)

It's a good opportunity to set our hearts towards caring for the needs of others, no matter who they are.

"Condescend to those of low estate". Look for those in need, and let your heart go out to them.

Love overcomes fear.

I like the thread title, Entitled Christians. I have the tendency to feel "entitled" to the things I have, but that's not the way it is to be!

Much love!

In my lifetime I have had a neighbor with two legs that was a one legged begger by profession.

I have had neighbors, better off than I was, that when you found them at work it was on a street corner with a sign.

I try hard not to judge. I try to have good food in the car to feed these hungry with. I have had it practically thrown back in face, with wheres the money.

I have tried to pick up a back pack of someone to crippled to work. He was carrying an 80 pound pack, and five plus miles a day.

I have worked between the homeless and help systems. Disappointing is all I can say.

I try hard not to judge. But the fakers hurt the work.

I rejoice when food is gladly received.
I rejoice when help is truly welcomed and not demanded.

I have been in a church that was to uppity to help. I will no longer be in that church.

But entitled beggers? Whats up with that?

I keep seeing stories of more need than help, when I have worked between the homeless and shelters. The rules of the shelters got in the way of employment. Truly homeless people that benefit from special events employment, the agents of the special events ran into total roadblocks at the shelters of if the person isn't here by Xoclock, we are not going to trust them to be drug or alcohol free. "I will be chaperoning and working with if drugs or alcohol are possible I wouldn't be employing them!" Nope the hour is set! But ask the workers how full the shelter was when they had to give hours of pay? Half empty.

The food ministry in my community? That is a blessing to take part in.

So yes I am troubled.
Appearances are not what they appear to be.

All these people are the ones that need Jesus the most, and preaching the Gospel to them is what we must do... the Gospel has the ability to change them, not us, we only have the ability feed their needs physically, sometimes this is enabling them to continue in their ways, and detrimental to their healing..... The Gospel does not enable, but transform them.

This is true David,
Not all the soup kitchens and pantry's are affiliated with the Church and even some that are just do the feeding and "hand outs". Pre covid, we were attached to a church and we always prayed before giving out the food but now, our center is no longer affiliated with the church as they split off into their own identity and...no more prayers just the attitude of, give it and get rid of him/her. Not liking my community center much anymore which is why I've cut way back from going...no chance to actually sit down and talk to a person about The Lord...most are not interested anyhow but still...

I like it.

When my church encouraged my inability to minister I know I missed many opportunities.

When my church lived and breathed item #3 I can prove we missed many opportunities.

When I read in the Bible about being visited by angels and those angels being in disguise. Angelic things that happen in life.

I, we, us, you have to wonder if God has put the down and out in our path to test us.

Scary thought, isn't it?

My wife and I have attempted to help a number of people on personal levels, sometimes bringing them into our home, sometimes trying to mentor. We've not seen good results. We've seen people determined to live off of others. We've seen that the corner/sign beggars collect hundreds of dollars per day.

My wife put it well the other night. Quite a number of those on the streets are there because they want to be, because they don't like following rules.

Much love!

Matthew 25:40, "And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’ Should I follow the Lord's admonition or your comment?

I, we, us, you have to wonder if God has put the down and out in our path to test us..

On the other hand, if somebody is down and out, perhaps they won't lift a finger to help themselves?
When I was released from Leicester Prison in 2002 (3 month vigilante rap) I was homeless, jobless near-penniless and living rough in a tent in a wood near Cheltenham shivering with a wonky thyroid but could still laugh at myself. "Oh great" I thought, "I've ended up as Bigfoot".
But I soon got out and up, no problemo..:)
