10 hours is nothing compared to our secular study commitments.

It is worth checking out this overview.
This is Monday morning and I have a business the Lord gave me. I have a lot to do, but I posted this morning because the Lord told me He wanted me to post.

I wouldn't do it, but I believe Him who talks to me is the Lord our God, so His request come first! Do you hear Him this morning???

Let me just say, if He has asked me to spend 10 hours reading your study today I don't get my business done. Unless of course He tells me, then He would make a way. So my message is always going to be listen to Him instead of read my study! How is that your your message?

LOL. Did his mother Mary call him to dinner that way? "The Word of God, dinner is ready." The claims just more and more preposterous.
You can call Him Jesus and still know He is the Word of God. Mary would have known that - but you can't understand that if you don't actually listen to Him!

Rom 10: 9 if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved;
Text proof Jesus is not God as Rom 10:9 requires as a point of salvation that you believe God - meaning God in his wholeness, in his unitarian nature - raised Jesus from the dead.

Misinterpretting John 1:1 all you want does not change this. Furthermore, you have to take John 1:1 from the perspective of 20:31, that everything he wrote was to prove something other than what you are trying to use it to prove.

And the only reason you do this is because there is no explicit teaching of your doctrine in the Bible, no verse that reads something like The nature of God is a trinity - consisting of the Father, Son & Holy Spirit who are co-equal, co-substantial and co-eternal - and if you do not believe this, you cannot be saved but are damned to hell forever.

My lessons are 10 hours of simple video clips on youtube.

It explains the Bible as an overview of what it is all about.

I usually teach it in public once a week in 10 lessons(1 hour per lesson).

I only take up 1 hour per week in a persons home, then leave.

Some folks are too busy for 1 hour per week but some are not.

If you are too busy, I understand.

Definitely not the way ANDY STANLEY DOES . I just read it and love it .
Agreed. The only problem is folks don't know how to read the Bible when they first encounter it.
Lift those hands up and let the glorious Lord be praised . Feasting daily on the wonderful holy scrips . Let all that has breath both praise and thank the Lord .

The Lord got on to me a bit for my prior response. I needed to add a bit more explanation. We are to preach the Word, which means we preach Jesus Christ, who is the Word, and that He is called 'The Word of god' because He talks to us - thus the problem is that we don't listen. So understanding the Bible in general is understanding that the Bible is proclaiming (preaching) Jesus Christ!

Now the church still has instruction from the Lord to Edify! To edify means to teach in religious matters!! There is a lot to teach from the Bible. Now in preaching Jesus Christ as the Word of God,. meaning He talks to us, we are proclaiming Him as the Teacher!! We want people to know Him because frankly, being God, He can teach people a whole lot better than we can. They just need to make a habit of listening to Him! Still, He will and like to include us in His work! So we find that He uses His people, His church, to teach!! That should help people get some understanding!!

Now what religious matters do we teach???

The answer is that we teach what He asks us to teach, because He is our Lord and we are thus supposed to be listening to Him. Therefore there is a qualification that is need before we teach others!!! Check out these verses:

Heb 5:11,12, Concerning him we have much to say, and it is hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing. For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you have need again for someone to teach you the elementary principles of the oracles of God, and you have come to need milk and not solid food.

Basically those verses explain that a person is not qualified to teach unless they practice hearing the Lord!!!! That is obvious, because if they don't practice hearing from Him they are not going to be good at hearing Him, so they will be dull of hearing, and so their passing on teachings from the Lord will be poor at best!! And their understanding is also going to be poor, because understanding comes from the voice of the Lord, and not even our teaching others. Passing on a teaching from Him might help, but honestly, people still need to talk to Him because He knows how to bring the teaching home, or should I say He knows how to put the teaching in our hearts because that is where the Word of God we preach is found!

Now Jesus Christ my Lord, does not want me to discourage people from trying to help Him!! However He does ask me to get them to seek Him so that they are actually helping Him!!

He once gave me a parable about a man who while walking by His house saw a lot of paper on His lawn. So the man, wanting to help, started picking up the paper and threw it in the trash. Now He could see the man was a well-intentioned man, but the Lord had placed the paper on the lawn for a reason. The paper said come to the door and the Lord would let them in and talk with them. Indeed, the Lord was planning a party, so the paper was a party invitation!

There are well-intentioned people who wanting to help take the paper with the invitation on it (the Bible) and mistakenly throw it in the trash. The Lord loves those people, but they need to start listening to Him!! If you are listening to Him then you are going to give Him the glory!! Thus a person listening to Him does not write "My lessons", because a person listening to Him knows that they came from Him and are just passing the information along! so instead they will give Him credit. It doesn't mean they get everything right, but they too are trying, but they are trying to lead people to Him, not themselves.

The Lord once told me:

"Listen to me, listen to me; Karl why to they say 'listen to me'? Isn't it because they are not listening to ME?"

So if we read: "
"My lessons are 10 hours of simple video clips on youtube."

Are not those lessons from the person writing that? We don't have reason to think the person is lying, right? So they are not the Lord's lessons, are they? In the Bible we read things like, "the word of the Lord came to me saying..." That is given the Glory to Jesus Christ as we should be. If a person thinks you are lying they too can seek the Lord and listen to Him. So, tell them to do that! Then even their pesimistic attitude will also lead them to our Lord and saviour, Jesus Christ!!

So it is that I recommend that you take everything I wrote (and indeed every thought you get) to Jesus Christ and listen to His comments on them!!

I make mistakes, and I don't mind that you find them out. But to truly find them out you have to seek the Truth, who is Jesus Christ, and listen to Him! He is Understanding!! That is what the Bible tells you!

Prov 8:14 “Counsel is mine and sound wisdom; I am understanding, power is mine."

I remember the time I was sitting and talking to Him over lunch at a taco stand. He was giving many bits of wisdom. One of them was, "Karl, understanding is understanding that I AM Understanding."

So it doesn't take 10 hours to give people understanding, He is always their with them - but you might have to say a lot to just get them to believe that, because it is hard to explain that people can just listen to Him by faith, if they put their faith in Him into action, and listen!

Karl, you dont preach Hebrews 5 to sinners.

You are an example of the one that needs to go through the lessons.

My lessons are specifically designed to reach sinners by proving the Bible is the word of God as I expose them to their Bibles using picture charts, then the Holy Ghost awakens them to it.

I have seen hundreds of souls CONVERTED to the Lord via these lessons over the last 40 years.

They are very simplistic....

The OP asked about how to study the Bible.

I offered this, not a lecture.

Hello,
I've been to Northpoint church and Woodstock City church, two of A. Stanley church's. A. Stanley is a false prophet, he is not a Christian, he is a professional speaker brought up in his fathers church.

2 Timothy 3:5 - having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!

When you turn away from them; who do you turn to???

The verse is correct, but it is designed to get you to turn to Jesus Christ and listen to Him. In fact you should turn to the Lord and take all thoughts captive to Him. Then He might have you take His words to the world, including those you turned away from!

To some, turning away from one person means turning to another person, even if the other person is themselves. But that is not correct! To people Jesus said, 'if you being evil" - so that we are, because He does not lie. So mind is not to judge people, but rather it is to turn to Jesus Christ and He then can use me to help others! And the best way to help others is to turn them to Jesus Christ, so they might listen to His instructions from them!

So concerning this thread about how to study the Bible - is not the correct answer to seek the Lord while we study the Bible!!! We need to get used to seeking the Lord in all things, so we should at least start by listening to Him about the Bible. It is written the God teaches us in parables and dark sayings, so even 2 Timothy 3:5 is like a parable or dark saying that you need to bring to the Light, Jesus Christ, to get understanding. Being Godly means you are seeking the Lord! So who denying the power of God? Is it not us? Yes, it is us!! We tend to miss the log in our own eye, while looking at the speck on the other persons eye.

Look, I confess! He had me work in a Christian healing ministry for five years and I saw Him do many miracles right in front of me.! Not just there, but at that ministry also! Yet even with seeing all that it was still hard to believe Him for the power of God at times. To believe Him, I needed to hear from Him, because faith comes from hearing! Still, there were times I couldn't hear Him for the miracle we needed. I have seen the Lord do more miracles than I can remember, but when I think back, I also remember the times when I couldn't believe Him for the power of God.

Knowing the Lord is like being Peter. Of all the disciples, Pete got our of the boat and walked on water, when Jesus talked to Him, but it didn't last long. We just don't understand who it is that has a form of godliness, and who is denying the power of God, and where to turn when we find that person. People, we are the people who need to remember to turn back to the Lord!

2 Tim 3: 1-2 But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come. For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy,

So how many reading here are men? Maybe this doesn't apply to women, but women seem to have some part of men in them, so perhaps it applies to them to? We ourselves, men and probably women too, are the ones living in the last days and are lovers of self, money, boastful, arrogant... so we need to turn away from us and start seeking Jesus Christ and what He has to say!! That is what is behind that meaning of the verses above!

Really??

Ok - but the only One I know that is not a sinner is Jesus Christ!! Or have you not read that all have sinned?

Perhaps you missed:

1 Jn 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us.

Are you not understanding that you have sin?

Did you who writes "My lessons" really convert them to Jesus Christ???

Mat 23:15 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, because you travel around on sea and land to make one proselyte; and when he becomes one, you make him twice as much a son of hell as yourselves.

Should not your lessons be the Lord's lessons? And we are not about exposing them to the Bible but to Jesus Christ!!!

The Holy Spirit once told me, "WE DON'T USE THE LORD TO PREACH THE SCRIPTURES. WE USE THE SCRIPTURES TO PREACH THE LORD!"

Havn't you got that backwards, and why is that so?

So who is it that needs to study Heb 5 more than the one who promotes his lessons as opposed to the Lord's. Who is truly turning people to our Lord Jesus Christ, and who is trying to turn them to the Scriptures?

Jn 5:39,40 You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; it is these that testify about Me; and you are unwilling to come to Me so that you may have life.

So why are you saying the Bible is the word of God - Have you not read:

Rev 19:13 He is clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God.

How about Jn 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God.

Or maybe you came across Gen 15?

Gen 15:1
After these things the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision, saying, “Do not fear, Abram, I am a shield to you; Your reward shall be very great.”

That wasn't the Bible, as the word of the Lord, that came and spoke to Abram, that was the Lord our God who spoke to Abram, and as you can see, His name in Gen 15:1 is "the word of the Lord". He had not yet gone to the cross so He was not yet God's Salvation (Jesus), but He was the "Word" from the very beginning!! And Abram understood and believed in Him who spoke to him. That was what was counted as righteousness!! And counted as righteousness is not the same thing as actually being righteous (not sinning, because all unrighteousness in sin) But being counted as righteousness gets us into heaven and the presence of God!!

So we need to start actually listening to Him, and telling others to listen to Him, even those like the Pharisees who are looking to get followers for themselves, so they write "My lessons".

The Holy Spirit is not the only spirit around. The Holy Spirit will always tell us that Jesus Christ is Lord! Thus He will always point us to Jesus Christ! He does not have you saying "My lessons", because He is promoting the lessons that come from Jesus Christ! The Holy Spirit uses the Bible to point people to Jesus Christ, so it is not about exposing the Scriptures but using the Scriptures to reveal Jesus Christ to people!!

Hello Karl Peters,
You said "When you turn away from them; who do you turn to???". Of course we turn to Christ for everything and turn away from evil.

Galatians 2:20 - I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.

When a person goes to study the Bible they need to have the Lord with them! Of course He is always with them, so I mean they need to be listening to Him.

A pastor or preacher needs to prepare the sermon or teaching, by getting information from the Lord, I mean they need to be listening to Him.

So when that pastor or preacher presents the message it is the message the Lord has asked them to present.

I remember once I was at a church where I knew the pastor knew the Lord and how to hear from Him. That pastor had been brought up in a family who all knew the Lord really well. Indeed, her son was an incredible man of God who knew the Lord extremely well. Yet she started off by tell the congregation that this was her message. The Lord asked me to go up to her afterwards and tell her that He said, "Don't tell them it is your message. Tell them it is My message and don't lie."

So, I did like I was told and gave her the specific word the Lord had given me to tell her. To her credit she received it and understood it well! That was not a surprise! We all need to be reminded to listen to the Lord. In Hebrews we find that we are to encourage each other to listen everyday called Today.

That message - encouragement - should be received and understood well! Because we know that but sometimes forget. So who doesn't receive that message and understand it? Obviously, the person who doesn't want to be reminded to listen to the Lord is the person who doesn't want to listen to the Lord!!

So we need to ask ourselves, do we want to hear from the Lord or not? Just take a look at how you receive the message about listening to Him.

What I am saying is folks that don't have the Holy Ghost do not understand this....

14 Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy.

2 For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.

3 But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort.

4 He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church.

5 I would that ye all spake with tongues but rather that ye prophesied: for greater is he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying.

6 Now, brethren, if I come unto you speaking with tongues, what shall I profit you, except I shall speak to you either by revelation, or by knowledge, or by prophesying, or by doctrine?

....right?

How do you usually do bible study? Do you just read through the bible as it is? Do you make use of commentaries? I usually just read through the bible as it is, but want to go deeper in depth with my bible study. Will appreciate all helps I can get!
I'm not a fan of commentaries. They have bias against what Scripture says at times.

I usually read a chapter of the Bible out loud a chapter per day. Or Ill look up a word and see verses that use the word in Scripture. I love songs with Scripture because they help me memorize it. I have an app called BibleMemory that is also helpful.

I use commentaries a lot. They give you useful background information (history, geography, cultural differences). This is very important because without this knowledge you can jump to the wrong conclusions about what a passage means. Also, the good ones will point out where Christians differ in their interpretation of a passage or verse, and give you the pros and cons of each viewpoint.

Ideally, I like to read two different commentaries to get different angles on a passage. Matthew Henry's commentary is available to read free online and is often very useful (although you have to bear in mind that it's a few hundred years old and there's a lot of background information that he simply didn't have access to at the time he was writing - also it's based on the KJV, which I don't use). For modern English commentaries you can't go far wrong with the "Bible Speaks Today" series (although to collect all of them would end up being quite expensive as there are separate ones for each book of the Bible)
Hi @Deborah_ We are blessed in English to have all sorts of commentaries and Bible helps available..................

6 Now, brethren, if I come unto you speaking with tongues, what shall I profit you, except I shall speak to you either by revelation, or by knowledge, or by prophesying, or by doctrine?

....right?

What does the above have to do with anything we are talking about? HUMM?

I have been telling people to listen to the Lord! We hear the words of our Lord God Jesus Christ via the Holy Spirit.

So if we do speak in tongues, and language "no man understandeth: we can simply ask our Lord Jesus Christ for an explanation/interpretation and He will give us understanding! Remember that one of our Lord's names is Understanding. So it is also written:

1 Cor 14:13 Therefore let one who speaks in a tongue pray that he may interpret.

That means, like I have been saying, that we need to seek the voice of the Lord and listen to Him!! We hear from Him, and in words, via that same Holy Spirit that gives us the gift of tongue!!

In fact, in case you haven't talked to the Lord about this, the main reason for tongues is to get them to seek the voice of the Lord for the words!!

I mean, if you start speaking words from your mouth that you don't know what they mean, shouldn't it be obvious to you to ask the Lord what is being said??!

So yeah, right!! prophesy is better in a group of people than speaking in tongues - yet that is because prophecy requires you actually seek the Lord Jesus Christ and ask Him to explain/interpret things for you - which means you have to listen!

That is not studying the Bible, so really does not belong on this thread - except that for studying the Bible we need to to the same thing as when speaking in tongues!! We need to actually seek our Lord Jesus Christ for an explanation/interpretation.

And when He talks He reproves us!!

Rev 3:19 ‘Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline; therefore be zealous and repent.

We don't need reproof if we do everything right! And all unrighteousness is sin! So we are sinners in need of our Lord Jesus Christ! Yet some have said they have not sin, and that is not from the Lord Jesus Christt!

1 Jn 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us.

So why did you write: "Karl, you dont preach Hebrews 5 to sinners."??? We are the sinners!

So what are we to do? Well again we need to go back to the Lord for His words, teachings, and instructions!!! Which is what I have been saying!

He once took me to Ezekiel 3 and asked me to read there! He asked me to go there and as I read He started talking to me. (Which should happen anytime we study the Bible with Him) However this time He actually was telling me personally what He wanted me to do, and it was very similar to what He has told Ezekeil. He was telling me that He was not sending me to people speaking a forieghn tongue but rather to a people who should listen to Him! He explained that they were not going to be willing to listen to me because they were not willing to listen to Him! He also told me that He had made my head hard like their head. I need to be a bit hardheaded to try and get through to a people not willing to listen to Him!

Ezek 3:5-8 “For you are not being sent to a people of unintelligible speech or difficult language, but to the house of Israel, nor to many peoples of unintelligible speech or difficult language, whose words you cannot understand. But I have sent you to them [fn]who should listen to you; yet the house of Israel will not be willing to listen to you, since they are not willing to listen to Me. Surely the whole house of Israel is [fn]stubborn and obstinate. “Behold, I have made your face as hard as their faces and your forehead as hard as their foreheads.

So why are you writing "My lessons are 10 hours of simple video clips on youtube." Did you not listen to the Lord and get instructions from Him??? If so, then say so and don't take His credit for yourself!! The word of the Lord we preach is found in your heart and mouth, so if "My lessons" is what's coming out your mouth then is not the Lord telling you, out of your own mouth, that you are not listening to Him but that you call then "My lessons"? Then you go a preach "the Bible is the word of God", as opposed to Him speaking to you via His Holy Spirit so that so that the word of God you preach is not found in your heart and mouth!

Have you not read:

Is 28:12,13 He who said to them, “Here is rest, give rest to the weary,” And, “Here is repose,” but they would not listen.
So the word of the LORD to them will be,“ Order on order, order on order, Line on line, line on line,
A little here, a little there, That they may go and stumble backward, be broken, snared and taken captive.

My friend - If you don't actually listen to the Lord Jesus Christ, then the Bible (that book written order on order, line on line, and which we read a little here and there) will have to be the word of God to you, because you don't listen to Jesus Christ as the Word of God!! When that happens you go stumbling backwards and are broken, snared and taken captive by those religious spirit!! Then you might start writing things like, "My lessons" instead of His lessons that you passing on!

Honestly, I spent some time talking to Him about you and listening to what He told me. He loves you and He appreciates what you try and do for Him! He even told me that if you listened to Him more then you would find out more and more about how He has been working in your life! In fact He explained that if you did start listening to Him more and more, then you would stop taking credit for His work in you!!! He specifically told me "that pride does not do you or Him any good!" It is a spirit that you don't want to listen to!

Consider that Jesus said John the Baptist was the greatest born of women - yet He also compared John to a reed blowing in the wind. The Lord reminded me of that too, during that conversation. That happens to us! We get blown around in the wind!

So, I understand that our Lord has a purpose for you! i also understand that I too have instructions and He and it is to get people to listen to Him. He once told me, "Karl, I want you to preach the Word but not as it is so often preached today. I want you to preach I AM the Word of God"

He is the I AM meaning that He is always there with us. He is the Word of God meaning that we can and need to listen to Him!!

If a person understand that, then they understand the whole purpose of the Bible!! It does not take 10 hours to explain that, but it might take a lot of explaining just to get people to consider that He is actually there to be heard from!!

Heb 5:11,12 Concerning him we have much to say, and it is hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing. For though [fn]by this time you ought to be teachers, you have need again for someone to teach you the elementary principles of the oracles of God, and you have come to need milk and not solid food.

He asked me to include "That verse is for you too." and He wanted me to ask you - Why else did He have it put in the Bible? Is the Bible not for you to study also? Study with Him!! That is how it should be done!

Do you read 1 Cor 14 to unregenerated sinners, or do you wait until they receive the Holy Ghost, first?
