Hello @My Dreams,

Thank you for bringing John 3:30 to our notice. You have obviously quoted it as the expression of your own hearts desire, in the spirit, that Christ should be exalted and you abased. So many of us have also had the same worshipful thoughts when reading it. Yet today, I have been looking at the context of that verse too, and seen it in the light of the one who uttered them.

John the Baptist had been born to do the will of God, set apart from birth for that purpose (Mark 1:2), wasn't he? to be the forerunner of the Lord Jesus Christ: to go before Him and make His paths straight. To prepare the people's hearts to receive the message our Lord had to bring, with the words, 'repent ye, for the kingdom of God is at hand' (Matthew 3:2). He was the the last of the prophets, through whom God spoke (Hebrews 1:1; Matthew 11:!3).

John had fulfilled his mission, he knew it was time for the Lord Jesus Christ to increase, and for him to decrease, for his work was done. There was no self-seeking, only the will of God in Christ Jesus and it's fulfilment mattered. His reward will be received in resurrection glory, in that day which is yet to come.

Thank you
In Christ Jesus
Chris

He must increase, but I must decrease.
Jesus did go on increasing Dream, the disciples of John, became his followers. Today followers of Jesus number in the millions, whereas those of John the baptist are likely very few if any. John was sent ahead to prepare the way for the Christ sir. v28
