Many point the finger and speak vanity...saying...look to the cross. These try to take away the conviction of the Spirit by trying to redirect their own sinful behaviour onto Jesus. These want to keep Jesus on the cross to be their personal clean-up person.“stop the putting forth of the finger and speaking vanity”
There is no way to stop the putting forth of the finger and speaking vanity…unless our own images is put off, cast away, removed… to me I do not see how it is possible to stop the putting forth of the finger and speaking vanity as long as we keep even a speck of our own image. But that is just me, that is how I read it. I’m very familiar with it too because it is in me. To finger point and speak vanity. A jab jab jab of my finger in others direction “look see” “look see” …will I ever be free from “let me tell you how to do it. I know best.” Oh my micro managing and worries and anxiety over “no it has to be done my way.” I wish some one would help me by saying “go rest”. Some one did…our granddaughter. “Mimi, you need to go take a rest”!
Paul gloried in the cross..not as an excuse for sin...but because he was crucified on it WITH Christ...not Christ instead of him.
In spiritual infants one can understand the comfort of someone dying in your place. But at what point does scape-goating Jesus become just an evil scheme to preserve the flesh?
