It's okay to have favorites; but what's not okay is inequity; which Webster's
defines as unfairness.
†. Rom 2:5-11 . . God will render to each one according to his deeds
--eternal life to those who by patient continuance in doing good seek for
glory, honor, and immortality; but to those who are self-seeking and do not
obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness -- indignation and wrath,
tribulation and anguish, on every soul of man who does evil, of the Jew first
and also of the Greek; but glory, honor, and peace to everyone who works
what is good, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For there is no partiality
with God.
†. Col 3:25 . . But he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he
hath done: and there is no respect of persons.
†. 1Pet 1:17 . . And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons
judgeth according to every man's work, pass the time of your sojourning
here in fear:
I used to work with two men from Guam. One was the shop supervisor.
Well; one day the super called in the other guy to talk with him about his
performance and the other guy got angry because he figured that since they
were fellow Chamorro, the super should cut him some slack. Well; my
supervisor was a very fair man and instructed his countryman in no
uncertain terms that he expected no less from Chamorro than from non
Chamorro because it wouldn't be fair to the rest of us.
I've also seen it go the other way. In another shop I worked in, the young
foreman was an off-road motorcycle enthusiast and a snow skier. Well;
some of the welders were into those sports too and they'd meet with the
foreman on week-ends to pursue their common interest. They all became
really good beer-buddies and because of it; the foreman was quite a bit
more lenient with their job performance, and when lay-off times came
around, none of those guys were never let go.
Moral of the story is: people seeking special treatment are going to find out
that it does no good to buddy up to Christ because he's just as fair across
the board as his Father. No matter how much the Lord might like you; he's
not going let your association with him make a difference comes time to
evaluate your performance.
Note : the premise of this thread is exactly why it's essential to study the
Bible instead of just reading it. People who read the Bible instead of studying
it are like children allowed to play with a Rolex. In no time at all they'll break
a perfectly good timepiece and then complain that it stopped running all
because they're too immature to appreciate the workings of a fine watch.
