i came across a post in an atheist group, the motivational photo posted by a christian goes
"God isnt asking you to figure it out. Hes asking you to trust that he already has."

to which one ex-christian commented following

"Having grown up in a fundamentalist family this was my indoctrination; to quit figuring things out for my self and trust god. “Let go and let god” was the mantra. The trouble is that others in our society were busy honing the skill set of figuring things out, making decisions for the best outcome, and then accepting the responsibility for the decisions that they made. I was not. The result was to be hurled into adulthood with no real decision making experience and no decision making skills. This put me at a distinct disadvantage. I now liken this advice/demand to child abuse.
To clarify, it was often stated that to plan for the future was to trust in yourself and distrust god. To make plans was to assume the reins of your own life and thereby show your insubordination to almighty god who has planned your future and has your best interests in mind. Terrible advice. Just pathetic. Terrible - yet scriptural."

to me, we gotta do anything we can, and then we may put our trust in god to do what we cant- i honestly cant remember anything in the bible relating to this and im not sure how to even google for references on this as the results would be so vague
what do you guys think, to me it sounds like the family were just procrastinating from doing things on their own and instead wanted god to do their life for them?

I think the person who wrote, "The trouble is that others in our society were busy honing the skill set of figuring things out, making decisions for the best outcome, and then accepting the responsibility for the decisions that they made. Often there is a root of bitterness that has developed from a tiny seed, and finding some medium to grow in has sprouted and blossomed to eventually bear fruit, bitter, resentful fruit that blames whatever or whomever it can for life's challenges and hardships.

Deliverance from such bitterness is a wonderful release into thanking and praising God every second for every second, regardless of how much trouble, sorrow, need, sickness, or other adversity may be experienced.

Heb 12:15 Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;

Well....just sitting back and waiting is not doing anybody any good.
God gave us a brain and expect us to use it.
I have seen many Christians messed up by the "sit back and let God" principle.
Pray and use your brain seems to work better.

We put our trust in God for the things that are out of our control. For the rest, we have a God-given intellect. We can look to Him for guidance, but ultimately, we were given free will, and it's up to us to make the decisions.

Maybe his parents misapplied scripture, or maybe he's using Christianity as a scapegoat; I don't know. But his issue sounds like it has more to do with flawed parenting than religion.

That is what it sounds like to me as well. The truth is prayer does offer success but its very limited, but when we pray and act it promotes true change and the change will eventually come no matter what as long as we stay focused. That being said i believe prayer offers greater opportunity than actions. God knows everything and can do anything, we cannot. This where Perseverance comes in. That is my view.
