I do agree that there are limits to submission. Submitting to a really clearly sinful request like opening the marriage does not fall under "as is fit in the Lord", for example.
But the act of picking up the skittles wouldn't ultimately harm me. It would be emotionally hurtful if a husband treated his wife that way. He is definitely in the wrong. 1 Peter 3 says his prayers are hindered for not living with his wife in am understanding way.
But the bottom line is, the Holy Spirit may prompt me to humbly pick up the skittles to demonstrate the grace of God, especially if the husband is not a believer, so he could be won to Christ. I have never witnessed anyone able to respond graciously to being mistreated who was not a mature Christian. It could, in many cases, be a powerful witness.
I agree with your initial posts Wynona, and then lost track of this thread.
Also, I agree with you that women should be keeping the home and raising a family and men should be out there earning to supply the financial necessities.
God planned everything right in the Garden,,,but the sin set in.
Woman was supposed to be a helper to a loving husband,,,but then sin set in.
So today men and women have to make the best of a world gone mad.
Don't know the % but some guys don't even want serious relationships anymore.
Women have created a world for themselves that is not sustainable.
I dread to think where all this will end up...
Women don't want families or children,
men don't want marriage,
looks like we're headed for distinction unless some dystopian solution could be found.
And it would be dystopian...
So, IF the husband threw the skittles on the floor specifically to be mean, as your post stated, and asked his wife to pick them up,
I'd tell him to pick them up himself.
Why?
Because respect is 50% of the deal, and that husband does not respect his wife.
If you wanted to try it one time as a witness, it might be worth the try.
But the 2nd time?
This type of person doesn't care too much about what you'd witness.
And, BTW, I remembered what skittles are!
Used to eat them at "the movies".
Boy, that was long ago.
Been away too long.
