Ephesians 5
28So husbands ought also to love their own wives as their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself;
29for no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ also
does the church...
So, just as a man, according to what is reasonable, nourishes and cherishes his own flesh, so, also, he must do with his wife, keeping in mind that the two have become one flesh; so, also, that is what Christ does for the church, because, as it was with Adam, she is "bone of my bone, flesh of my flesh", Christ's own body. Even if you wanted to, contrary to Scripture, forego the Adam typology, it wouldn't matter : a husband and his wife become one flesh, ergo, the Church, Christ's body, His own flesh, He takes care of it, just as a husband takes care of his own flesh, his wife.
