LOL
That's a great point, thanks.
Feed = put out to graze

Questions:
- Is the church putting us out to graze?
- What does that mean in practical terms?

[
The Bible spends quite a bit of space on shepherding, but most of it doesn't have to do with feeding.

David's Psalms talk about protecting the sheep from predators, and anointing sheep with oil. Sheep tend to have problems with sinus infection and infestation by insects, and using (often medicated) oil on the head is/was common treatment.

The gospels talk about rescuing lost sheep, and sheltering them for the night in enclosures.

So, in practical terms... I believe a pastor is meant to be someone who protects, brings back strays, treats the sick, and gives shelter. Teaching is noticeably absent from this list.

Great point!!

agapaō -- prefer, to love; for the believer, preferring to "live through Christ" (1 Jn 4:9,10), i.e. embracing God's will (choosing His choices) and obeying them through His power. (agapáō) preeminently refers to what God prefers as He "is love" (1 Jn 4:8,16). (agapē).

then

phileō -- to show warm affection in intimate friendship, characterized by tender, heartfelt consideration and kinship.
Phileo appears to be used in relation to the Father and Son as well

John 5:20 For the Father loveth (phileo G5368) the Son, and sheweth him all things that himself doeth:
and he will shew him greater works than these, that ye may marvel.

Jesus used the idea of 'sheep' as an analogy for members of His Church. 'My sheep hear My voice" remember?

The word 'pastor' for a teacher of God's Word comes from the idea of a 'pasture', and a rich feeding for the sheep in that pasture.

Thus when Jesus told Peter to "feed My sheep", 3 times, He was commanding Peter to pastor the flock in His Word, i.e., teach the congregation of the body of Christ.

I agree with this, I am just adding a few examples here springboarding off your post here

Concerning Peter feeding his sheep, it says back in Jeremiah

Jerm 3:15 And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding.

These would give them to understand things, for example Paul

1 Cr 12:3 Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed:
and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.

As Jesus told Peter to feed his sheep he encourages others to take the oversight of the same as well

1Peter 5:2 Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind (See also Acts 20:28)

These also seem comparable, as far as looking after others, that they might know the state of a flock or persons

Proverbs 27:23 Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, and look well to thy herds.

Similary shown in Paul towards them

Phil 2:19 But I trust in the Lord Jesus to send Timotheus shortly unto you, that I also may be of good comfort, when I know your state.

That Paul himself might be in good comfort (concerning them) or not find them as such as he would

fFor example here

2Cr 12:20 For I fear, lest, when I come, I shall not find you such as I would, and that I shall be found unto you such as ye would not: lest there be debates, envyings, wraths, strifes, backbitings, whisperings, swellings, tumults (which is a sorry state)

2Cr 12:21 And lest, when I come again, my God will humble me among you, and that I shall bewail many which have sinned already, and have not repented of the uncleanness and fornication and lasciviousness which they have committed.

Seems one house would look after and report on what is going on in the other house and Paul would chime in

1Cr 1:11 For it hath been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them which are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you.

Just a few places that agree in feeding them with understanding, taking oversight, looking after their state in all those ways.

Psa 23:1-2 A Psalm of David. The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. (2) He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters.

Psa 100:3
Know that the LORD, He is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.

That Scripture evidence also puts man's OSAS theory to shame too. Paul's Epistles shows he kept a tight reign over the Churches as their overseer chosen by Lord Jesus. Paul didn't hold back when the brethren sinned, and told them to repent. The one in 1 Cor.5 that was having intercourse with his mother, Paul was especially adamant with.
