You want to use John 3.36 to back up your statements??

John 3:36
36“He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.”

This is an accurate version..... ill post the verse......and i'll show you why.

"""""He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.""""

Why does John say "believe"?

Its because to "obey the Gospel"......is to BELIEVE IT....

Jesus says if you do not believe that He is your messiah, you will "die in your sins"....and that means you died as a UN-BELIEVER.

When Jesus comes back ....in flaming fire bringing vengeance.... 2 Thess 1:8-9......He's bringing it to all these.

"who have not obeyed the Gospel".

A.) They have not BELIEVED IT.... as that is how you
obey it...so, that is John 3:36......as the wrath of God rests on UNBELIEVERS, because they are not born again.

It's BOTH a statement of testimony as well as actual witnesses. The fact the “We are surrounded” attests to this. They’re NOT just some bygone group of faithful servants of God – but living witnesses to the Kingdom.

When the Scriptures deal with death as “sleep” and says that they no nothing – this is carnal language, NOT spiritual. It is describing their PHYSICAL state. As I indicated before – we see conscious, disembodied spirits in Heaven crying out for justice in Rev. 6:9-11.

The Resurrection of the Body at the Return of Christ is when we get our glorified bodies – capable of doing everything Jesus did after His Resurrection (1 Thess. 4:15-17).

In the meantime – the spirits in Heaven are not “asleep” or oblivious. Neither the Rich Man or Lazarus were oblivious – NOR were Moses and Elijah at the Transfiguration (Luke 9:28-36).

Finally – the mere fact that the Elders in Heaven are taking OUR prayers to God in bowls of incense (Rev. 5:8) illustrates that they ARE, in fact, fully aware of what s going on here on earth.
Have it your way and prey to the elders then and see if they answer you. Jesus clearly taught His followers who to pray to and gave them the pattern for doing so. In Matthew 6:9 (NKJV) He said, “In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name,” and in Luke 11:2 (NKJV), “When you pray, say: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” By addressing God as “Our Father,” Jesus showed that prayer is to be directed to the Father in heaven, who loves us and desires a close relationship with His children. He taught that prayer must begin with worship, honouring God’s holiness, and then seek His will above our own. Jesus Himself prayed to the Father, as in John 17:1, giving us the example that our prayers should be to the Father, in His name, with reverence and a heart aligned to God’s purposes.

What about -

Luke 23:43 - And he said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise.”
Luke 23:43 is often misunderstood because of how the punctuation is placed in most Bible translations. In the original Greek manuscripts, there were no commas, periods, or quotation marks—these were added many centuries later by translators. A simple shift of the comma changes the meaning:

Instead of:
“Truly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.”
(which makes it sound like they would be in Paradise that very day)

It can read as:
“Truly I say to you today, you will be with Me in Paradise.”
Here, “today” refers to the time Jesus is speaking, not the time they arrive in Paradise.

This fits with the rest of Scripture, where both Jesus and the Old Testament teach that the dead “sleep” until the resurrection (Ecclesiastes 9:5, John 11:11–14, John 5:28–29).

Also, we know from John 20:17 that after His resurrection, Jesus told Mary He had not yet ascended to the Father, which means He had not gone to Paradise on the day of His death. So the promise to the thief was about the future resurrection and eternal life, not an immediate entrance into Heaven that same day.

DISBELIEVE and DISOBEY mean exactly the same.

Reader,

Our works dont matter to God.
Absolutely, not at all.

See, the Bible says our "ALL our works are as a filty rag" before God.
And that was written by Isaiah...who was perhaps the greatest OT prophet.
He's the one who foresaw Jesus and said...that "by Jesus Stripes we were Healed".

Why does Isaiah say that ALL our good works are like a filthy rag?

Its becasue He's comparing our works to God's Holiness.......and in that Light, all our deeds, works, performance, self effort, as compared to Holy God, = ALL our works are as a "filthy rag".

Understand?

Let me show you again, reader.

An unbeliever, on their way to Hell......... can give to a poor person...a thousand dollars to help them.
So, you can do it also.
What is the difference before God. ??????????

NOTHING.

See, its only in YOUR MIND that you believe that your works are now become something special because you're a Christian.
Oh. look at me.......all. my works.......my my my........me me me.......Im something......Let me tell you about my works !!
Yet, they are NOTHING before God., .. but in your mind.....

Listen now.
God does not evaluate our works that we do for Him or Christ.......because not only are they all a "filthy rag" before God.....its also the fact that our works for Him might FAIL....
Have you never tried to do something for God and it FAILED....totally?
How many times?
If not, you're not really trying...
So, our Works are just that, and nothing more.......They dont gain a Halo, because we are doing them as a Christian.
They are the same VALUE before God, as if you were doing them as a Christ rejector.

So, what does God VALUE?......if He does not value our works for Him.

A.) God values the MOTIVE in our HEART that caused us to want to do the good deed.

God looks at your HEART.........not at your works.....

So, get over yourself....and get off your self effort to try to be accepted by God, as He wont have it.
He's not interested .

Now, there has to someone here who reads a Bible., vs just posting verses and pretending you understand them.

So, go to Genesis, and read what Happened to CAIN.......when He tried to bring his WORKS before God...

God had not changed.
Read it.

"works are still = Filthy rags"........but your Heart MOTIVE for doing the works....now THAT is going to be judged, now, and when you meet Christ at the "Judgement seat of Christ".

You are overlooking Matt 27 -

Matt 27:50 And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice and yielded up his spirit.
Matt 27:51 And behold, the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. And the earth shook, and the rocks were split.
Matt 27:52 The tombs also were opened. And many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised,
Matt 27:53 and coming out of the tombs after his resurrection they went into the holy city and appeared to many.

The moment Jesus died, the debt of the human race was paid for, the curtain of the Temple the curtain was torn in two, from top to bottom and there was a resurrection. Apparently saints only.

Fits with -

Luke 23:39 One of the criminals who were hanged railed at him, saying, “Are you not the Christ? Save yourself and us!”
Luke 23:40 But the other rebuked him, saying, “Do you not fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation?
Luke 23:41 And we indeed justly, for we are receiving the due reward of our deeds; but this man has done nothing wrong.”
Luke 23:42 And he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.”

Luke 23:43 - And he said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise.”

So I tend to believe those who belong to Christ will be directly with the Lord when they die, like the criminal on the cross who repented.

I agree with your view. The only caveat for me is that I don’t believe a Christian experiences death based on Jesus saying “ he who believes in Him will never die.” I believe we are translated from this body directly to be with the Lord and then this earthen vessel hits the ground and all the people around will say we died.

OK
So you know that to DISBELIEVE means to DISOBEY...and V V

But then you go on to speak of believing the gospel...
Good. Romans even says we are to have the obedience of faith.

So....
why not believe everything Jesus taught?
And which Paul also taught....

The gospel tells us HOW to become saved.

What if we don't OBEY GOD after we're saved?

He's going to still save us even if we steal, commit adultery, blaspheme Him, etc.

Is THIS what Jesus and Paul taught?

We can continue to play the “Prayer” is for worship and nothing else” game – but it’s getting boring.

I have repeatedly posted the definition of “Pray” and it has been repeatedly ignored by every non-Catholic I’ve debated on this thread.
See post #2056 (Definition of "Pray").

The Bible doesn’t need to tell you to eat spaghetti in order for you to be able to eat spaghetti.
By the same token – it doesn’t tell us that we can’t make requests from anybody but God - which is what a “prayer” is.

ASKING a fellow member of the Body of Christ to pray for me is not only Biblical (2 Cor. 1:11, 1 Tim. 2:1-3, Phi. 1:22) –it is NOT forbidden. And that Body exists on earth AND in Heaven . . .

These resurrections were given as a sign! it is not related to anything else it does not mean that all that died were resurrected or the saints of old were also does it now? we have to be consistent with scripture or else everything falls apart and none is true.

So I take it you disagree with my previous post about Luke 23:24 and the comma that completely changes the meaning? it's ok you can disagree but I tell you and all all here what I know is as per scripture, and what the Holy Spirit reveals to me. If do not know something I wont mention or will say so.

Here are just some of my personal research notes about Luke 23:24 ;

Punctuation marks like commas, periods, and question marks were introduced gradually over time, primarily in the Byzantine period (9th–10th centuries). Early Greek manuscripts were written without these marks, and as a result, interpreters and translators had to decide how to break up the sentences based on their understanding of the text.
  • Codex Sinaiticus (ℵ): This is one of the oldest known manuscripts of the Christian Bible, dating to the 4th century. It is a complete manuscript of the Greek Old and New Testaments. The absence of punctuation in Luke 23:43 is clear. You can reference it in Ralph W. Scrivener's A Plain Introduction to the Criticism of the New Testament (1894).
  • Codex Vaticanus (B): Another 4th-century manuscript that contains the Greek New Testament without punctuation. In Luke 23:43, the same lack of punctuation is found.
  • Papyrus 75 (P75): This is one of the earliest papyri containing Luke, dating to around the 3rd century, and also does not include punctuation.
  • Papyrus 45 (P45): A manuscript that includes parts of the Gospels and Acts. Like the others, it also lacks punctuation.
refs;
  • Ralph W. Scrivener, A Plain Introduction to the Criticism of the New Testament, 1894.
  • Bruce M. Metzger, The Text of the New Testament: Its Transmission, Corruption, and Restoration, 4th edition, 2005. Metzger discusses the issue of punctuation in manuscript transmission and notes the later addition of punctuation in manuscripts.
  • The New Testament in the Original Greek by Westcott and Hort (1881) - this critical edition of the Greek New Testament follows the earlier unpunctuated manuscripts, showing where punctuation was later added for clarity.
With this, you can verify yourself like I did.

The ancient Greek manuscripts of the New Testament, including those of Luke 23:43, do not contain punctuation. Therefore, the placement of the comma is a matter of interpretation by translators. The addition of punctuation began after the manuscripts were created, and the debate over where to place commas in Luke 23:43 reflects differing theological perspectives and translator choices rather than something present in the original text.

The comma is an old topic.
Luke 23:43
43And He said to him, “Truly I say to you, today you shall be with Me in Paradise.”

1. Of course Jesus was speaking to the thief TODAY...no need to mention it.

2. In other languages it makes no sense to say TODAY unless Jesus meant that very day.

I like to stick to aplogetics and soteriology and some theology....
so I won't go on forever about this...
but let me ask you this:

IF we have a soul and spirit...
doesn't it make perfect sense that these go on after we die?

Our bodies will be resurrected but our soul and spirit live on after death...
otherwise the question has to be asked WHAT HAPPENS TO THEM??

Also, you might not believe in NDE and I hate to bring it up...
but it does seem, that if they're true (and it looks like they are)...then our soul and spirit DO survive death.

You brought up the OT...
God did not reveal Himself all at one time....
Even the Sadducess did not believe in life after death..
But the Pharisees did,
so I don't know if it's a good idea to bring up the OT teachings.
For instance,,,Ecclesiastes is about lamenting...it's not really a teaching book
although all books have something to teach.
If we go back that far into the OT,,,it would create conflict with what Jesus taught.

I don't think you need to even die to be caught up to paradise

2Cr 12:3 And I knew such a man, (whether in the body, or out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;)
2Cr 12:4 How that he was caught up into paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter.

How do you exegesis these two passages: ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels: 42 for I was hungry and you gave Me no food; I was thirsty and you gave Me no drink; 43 I was a stranger and you did not take Me in, naked and you did not clothe Me, sick and in prison and you did not visit Me.’

7 t

As soon as you exegete the verses I gaqve you I will be more than happy to show you those verses you posted.

Perhaps God has given them this ability...
First of all, hearing multiple people at the same time doesn’t require OMNIpresence. In other words, they don’t have to be everywhere, which is what omnipresent means.

Secondly – everything you are and everything you are capable of in Heaven is because of ChristNOT because YOU are special. How did Elijah and Moses appear to Jesus? Because of Jesus.

How are the Elders in Heaven conscious of our prayers that they are taking to God (Rev. 5:8)?

Because of Jesus.

Then how do they have any peace in heaven??
Because the peace of God surpasses ALL understanding (Phil. 4:7) . . .

Because the peace of God surpasses ALL understanding
(Phil. 4:7) . . .
Thanks for the reply Bread...

Here are just some of my personal research notes about Luke 23:24 ;

I don't think Jesus gave the criminal a puzzle to solve, but a clear not misunderstood promise, today you will with me in Paradise.
