I believe shopping---even secondhand shopping--- was something that was interfering with my contentment. I was falling into covetousness and an addiction to buying things.

But I know now I dont want my legacy to be containers full of things. A righteous man leaves an inheritance to his children's children, Proverbs says. That righteous man shouldn't be hindered by a wife with a penchant for pretty Clothes!

I learned a lot when I actually counted my blessings. Mainly that God has already given me more than enough and I ought to live in that reality with generosity towards those in need.

I quit shopping cold turkey. It was tough at first but I still feel quite happy without that habit. I rest in God's goodness and He provides all I need.

1 John 2:15
King James Version
15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

Hebrews 13:5
King James Version
5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

I've had a lot of worldliness to let go of. My shopping was constant and so was my desire to get out of our home, eating at restaurants and being seen.

It was hard to give up shopping at first but every time I think of leaving a legacy of containers of stuff, it kills the desire.

The Proverbs 31 was a producer, not a consumer.

I've let go of manicures, pedicures, new dresses every month, and constantly leaving home. I want the Lord to know He has given me more than enough and now it's time for me to serve and give to Him.

That means family in need, homeless, anyone I come across as I have the opportunity---as long as the husband's okay with it.

This world and all it's stuff is passing away. Only the foundation we build for Christ matters.

He said it's better to give than to recieve. Let's trust Him.

It is physically impossible to feel anxiety and gratitude at the same time. We can always find ways to practice gratitude more.

Wives, we can treat chore work as worship to the Lord and opportunities to help our husbands as opportunities to serve the Lord Christ. In humility, we can count others better than ourselves (Phillipians 2).

This is not me saying all wives must do this. But I want to be a woman who gets lost in serving and meeting the needs of others. One who has to be reminded to get new clothes.

I was raised a middle class spoiled princess. Consumerism and shopping malls were always available. I don't want that anymore. The happiest times in my life have been when Ive forgotten all about myself.

God will reward every good work. We can devote our tasks to God knowing He sees them all.
