Did they understand Jesus was more than the Son of Joseph there? Did they even know Jesus was going to be crucified there, and after all he told them about rising from the dead (after 3 1/2 years with him) they hadnt grasped that he would even be raised from the dead. And you have people needing to be fried because they come to believe in Jesus Christ as the Son of God but have not grasped the mystery of the fellowship between them.

I've known for many years that Jesus is God and Hell Fire is EVERLASTING. Nobody had to teach me that. I learned from Jesus, God of the Bible.
