Funny!the prince of the power of the air, means more than air pollution.
Great point. Demons are currently held in the abyss. Humans go to hell. These Scriptures describe the spiritual restrains that the whole demonic realm is currently subject to, up until the judgment. It is worth noting that this passage is the only place in Scripture where we find the Greek words tartaroo (Strong’s 5020) and seiraís (Strong’s 4577). The word tartaroo in the original does not refer to hell (Hades) but rather to the abyss. In fact, the Greek word tartaroo comes from tartaros which refers to the deepest part of the abyss. Moreover, the Greek word seiraís simply means bonds. This text powerfully confirms the Amillennial view that Satan’s demonic kingdom is already bound in the invisible spiritual realm of the abyss.
I do not agree. He is specifically talking about destruction. Sodom and Gomorrah are often used when Scripture is describing the pouring out of God's wrath and complete destruction. The clue is in what Jude writes, in v7, grammatically makes the comparison with these sinning angels and the people of Sodom and Gomorrah, what they did, referring to sexual immorality.
6 And the angels who did not keep their [c]proper domain, but left their own abode, He has reserved in everlasting chains under darkness for the judgment of the great day; 7 as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities around them in a similar manner to these, having given themselves over to sexual immorality and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the [d]vengeance of eternal fire.
Is that your rebuttal?
Do you know that demon entities inhabit humans? Hello! Satan controls the fools that wish to embrace his lies. He speaks through them. They are tools in his hands. That does not mean they are the same. They are not. Demons are evil invisible angels/ spirits that desire to inhabit physical human beings.
Secondly, Satan is an angel of darkness. But he is such a deceiver that he pretends to be an angel of light. That is what Scripture is telling us. It is warning us to be careful, circumspect and diligent.
Scripture calls them angels though, you have to agree with that.NO! Devils are evil invisible spirits, they are NOT angels! I find it extraordinary that one as learned as you cannot distinguish between evil spirits of Satan, and angels spirits of God both of which are MESSENGERS. And equally extraordinary that you could believe that Satan, who was, is and always shall be evil was created an angel of God until he rebelled! How do you reconcile this to eliminate the contradiction and confusion it causes?
Sure shows being possessed
Acts 16:16 And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a certain damsel possessed with a spirit of divination met us, which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying:
Acts 16:18 And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour.
Question WMP, only because I don't know what angle he is coming from (and has me on ignore) but is it all the angels/spirits/devils (as mentioned in the scripture) considered to be the same earthly origin? Referring to either men or their own man spirits sort of thing?
I cant wrap my mind around this.
Matthew 4, Satan, devil, same creature, a person, a fallen angel. Someone who has a third of all the angels in league with him, the prince of the power of the air, means more than air pollution.
What early church fathers believe that? They can if they take on human form, that is the idea.
Genesis 6
Now it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born to them, 2 that the sons of God saw the daughters of men, that they were beautiful; and they took wives for themselves of all whom they chose.
3 And the Lord said, “My Spirit shall not strive[a] with man forever, for he is indeed flesh; yet his days shall be one hundred and twenty years.” 4 There were [b]giants on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown.
There are 2 views on this Genesis 6 verse and to me it fits well what is mentioned in 2 Peter and Jude what happened to the fallen ones (fallen angels)
“The Nephilim were on the earth in those days—and also afterward—when the sons of God went to the daughters of humans and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown.”
This passage introduces the Nephilim in the context of a strange union between “sons of God” and “daughters of men.”
Who Were the Nephilim?
The word Nephilim likely comes from the Hebrew root npl, meaning “to fall”—hence, “fallen ones.”
They are described as mighty men, heroes of old, and possibly giants (as in Numbers 13:33).
Interpretations vary:
Fallen angels’ offspring: Many early Jewish and Christian sources (like the Book of Enoch and Church Fathers) believed the “sons of God” were angels who fathered hybrid offspring with human women.
Human lineage: Others, like Augustine, argued the “sons of God” were the righteous descendants of Seth, and the Nephilim were simply powerful humans.
Scripture calls them angels though, you have to agree with that.
I agree the demons are different, IMO, were the Nephilim, who once were mortal hybrids of angels and women, who died in the flood, whom God left to roam as the evil spirits over the earth.
I think when we talked last time Tribs got hung up on the words angels (which could mean messenger or angel) which can equally show someone such as John the Baptist (a man) or the messenger/angel sent before the His face, or the messenger/angel of the covenant (the Word made flesh) being called the same thing. Both men there (in that office so to speak)
My question is that if such a messenger (or angel) are always of human origin, then why did the messenger/angel of the covenant (Jesus Christ) hold the office of one but was said to have to be made lower one (according to their nature) for the suffering of death?
Naturally men die, Jesus said angels do not die.
So how does that even work? Thats my first question.
LOL! No, this was written for YOU—and for anyone else with ears to hear—so I covered all the bases:
First, can Christians be demon-possessed?
Second, what does “demon-possessed” really mean, and why do people believe such things today?
Read it carefully again—or are you just going to ignore it because you assumed it was meant for someone else? That is pure foolishness. Relying on human opinions instead of God’s Word shows a heart that refuses understanding.
Well, it is a biblical model—straight from God’s Word, which I quoted. I’ve never even heard of their so-called “modern psychological model,” so it’s obvious you’re grasping at straws to try to discredit my testimony. You can’t refute or resist what I post, so you look elsewhere. Sad.
I’m still waiting for you—and WPM—to offer a biblical rebuttal to my posts. But instead, you chase after something that has no foundation, hoping to distract from the truth. That is nothing more than a desperate attempt to avoid facing God’s Word.
Referring to which part of the verse? 'He was a murderer from the beginning'Scott, is Satan is a fallen angel why is it said speaking of him:
John 8:44 (KJV) Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
How can a serpent speak human language? What early church fathers believe that?
So, what is the origin of Satan and his demons? When and how did they originate? Where did they come from? Who are they?
2 Peter 2:4 — The Core Passage
“For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but cast them into hell and committed them to chains of gloomy darkness to be kept until the judgment…” — 2 Peter 2:4
The word translated as “hell” here is Tartarus (Greek: ταρταρόω), and this is the only time it appears in the New Testament.
Peter uses it to describe the temporary imprisonment of angels who sinned—likely referring to the rebellious angels mentioned in Genesis 6 or those who joined Satan’s rebellion
You deny he is angelic, a being or a personality.
OkAll of mankind until they are born again of the Spirit of Christ in them is spiritually speaking of the spirit of Satan, or of the Spirit of Christ. All man walk according to the spirit (mind/heart/will/emotions) that is in them. If the spirit of evil, we are of our father the Devil, if the Spirit of Christ, we are of our Father in heaven. Our spirit (mind/heart/will/emotions) is the control center of every man.
Scripture nowhere shows humans in the abyss. It is for devils alone. A place of restraint. These Old Testament humans were, like Noah to be messengers of God. But they gave themselves over to sin, and chose the things of the world rather than God. Noah alone was righteous before God. So these human messengers of God are kept in the deepest, darkness abyss to be reserved for Judgment. This was before the advent of Christ, before He descended into hell to set the captives free. That's why they like the rich man in the parable of Lazarus and the rich man are being held in that part of the grave that is separated from the bosom of Abraham.
There are not rebellious angels of God mentioned in Gen 6. There are only sons of God, who is never called an angel. It was not angels who sinned, but those who were the sons of God, but chose the world and rejected God.
Referring to which part of the verse? 'He was a murderer from the beginning'
To me this refers to the garden of Eden, where by his actions he caused the death of all people, Adam, Eve and all of humanity.
And the lie was in how he spoke to Eve. In v4, he lied to her about the dying part, they did die.
In v5, what he says makes Eve question God's motives for keeping the fruit from her, and it was desirable and looked good.
How can a serpent speak human language?
Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?”
He was a physical being, not a spirit.
Satan took on physical form.
Ok
