What is the nature of Hell?

Is Hell a place of eternal conscious torment?

Hell is described as a place of darkness, fire, brimstone, where the wicked will suffer forever.

Revelation, 14:11
“And the smoke of their torment will rise for ever and ever. There will be no rest day or night for those who worship the beast and its image, or for anyone who receives the mark of its name.”

If this is true, isn’t it a contradiction of God’s infinite love and mercy?

How could a loving God torture people forever in Hell?
1. God is love and justice and fully good.
2. To punish evil, God created Hell.
3. For a punishment to be fair, it cannot exceed the gravity of the sin.
4. Because human life is temporary, sins are limited in time and space.
5. However, Hell is an infinite punishment for finite sins.
6. If Hell exists and has been created by God, then God is not fair, is not love, and is not good, because the nature of Hell contradicts God’s essences.
7. Either Hell as an eternal punishment does not exist, or God is not fair.

How could a merciful God refuse to forgive people in Hell?
1. God is merciful and can forgive all sins.
2. However, people suffer in Hell for all eternity.
3. People can pray to God in Hell and ask for forgiveness.
4. God refuses to hear the pleas of hellpeople.
5. Either Hell as an eternal punishment does not exist, or God is not infinitely merciful.

Is Hell annihilation, to cease to exist?

Jesus-Christ says only the good people will get eternal life. If so, then sinners will die. If sinners live in eternity in Hell, then they will also get eternal life, which contradicts Jesus’s teaching.

Revelation, 21:8
“But for the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”

Why would God destroy what He has created?
1. God is eternal, omniscient and He is the creator. God cannot “change his mind”.
2. What God has created, He intended to create it from all eternity.
3. If God decides to destroy what He has created, then He changed his mind.
4. Either God is not omniscient and can change His mind, or He does not destroy what He has created.

Isn’t the soul immortal?
1. Humans have souls.
2. The soul, because it is spiritual, is immortal.
3. If annihilation is true, then the soul is mortal.
4. Either the soul is actually mortal and it contradicts the doctrine of the immortal soul, or the soul is really immortal and annihilation is false.

Is Hell actually a choice, a “happy” place?

People voluntarily and eternally choose Hell because they know that being in Hell will make them more happy than being in Heavens.

God is good and loves His creatures, even evil creatures, so He lets them free to choose good or evil. God does not punish them, rather it’s hellpeople who punish themselves by refusing God.
Hellpeople, still in the image of God, also get their eternal life.

However, it does not mean that Hell is objectively a “good” place, rather that what is deemed good depends on the person.

Good people love God and want to be with Him. They will cultivate their virtues and be forever happy in the divine presence.

Evil people hate God and want to live on their own, separate from Him. Because God is the source of all goodness, they will love evil and develop many disorders and madnesses. They will still have their own kind of twisted happiness.

On Earth, we can see this same difference between good people and evil people: the first try to be moral and be charitable, while the second seem to love to cause suffering and chaos.

Some people love to take care and save, other love to kill and torture.
Some people try to be virtuous, others indulge in mortal pleasures (lust, greed, pride, gluttony,...).

When the Bible describes hell as a death, it means the spiritual death of evil people, meaning their separation from God; indeed, good people need the spiritual bread from God to be spiritually alive. Without God, hellpeople will feel the anguish of loneliness.
Without God, who gives us life and love, we are nothing, we are dead.

The Bible also describes Hell as fire and suffering. It is actually written from the perspective of Heavens. If people of Heavens would go to Hell, separate from God, they would suffer terribly, as if they were engulfed in fire.
However, from the perspective of Hell, this fire, this darkness, is sweet pleasure.
In contrast, if hellpeople were put in Heavens, they would suffer terribly, being smothered by love and blinded by light.

Matthew 8:12: "But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
The weeping comes from the sadness of being separate from God; because without God, our lives are meaningless.
The gnashing of teeth is the regret; not regretting that they have committed sins, because that would be repenting, and God, who is merciful, would eventually accept them in His kingdom; but regret from being judged. Evil people hoped to commit their abominable deeds without consequences, so they truly regret that Jesus-Christ exists and He is The Judge.

In prison, some criminals are truly sorry for what they have done and are willing to pay for their crimes; but other criminals regret having been caught, they think on how to flee better next time.

What do you think of all of this? Please write your thoughts.

For a punishment to be fair, it cannot exceed the gravity of the sin.
Sin is an offence against an eturnal holy God. So the offence of sin is an etyrnal offence that deserves an eturnal punishment.
God is merciful and can forgive all sins
And today is the day of salvation for when we die then we face judgement.

Yes, God is eternal and holy, but we are not.

Because God made us, He knows that we are not good enough, because our nature is incapable of glorifying God.

So if God punishes us for our sins for eternity, then He is unfair because He knows that we cannot not sin, and He is directly responsible because He made us that way.

If temporary sins lead to eternal punishment, then it is not justice.

Here an analogy:
If a father has child, a baby, but that child is incapable of walking, thinking, controlling himself,... Then would he be right for that father to punish his child if he cannot do anything? No, because the child is only a baby.
Similarly, it would not be right that God punishes human beings because they are not good enough.

Today is the day of salvation, for when die, we face judgment: yes, but what if we regret our actions in our life and want to turn to God after our death? If God refuses our contrition after we have died, then He is not merciful.

Why would God forgives us in our life if we repent and convert, but refuses to forgive us after our death if we want to repent and convert?

I’m not going to entertain the false teachings in this post. When people start creating their own version of God, that is nothing new. Scripture calls it idolatry. Anyone who reshapes God into what they prefer has already turned from the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and is following the god of this world who is a deceiver and liar ~2 Corinthians 4:4. Instead of trying to rewrite what God has said, you need to read it and believe it. We only get one life and no second chances ~Hebrews 9:27. Stop looking for a god of your own design and bow down before the one true God.

What the Bible says about Hell is not complicated. Jesus said it is “everlasting fire” ~Matthew 25:41, where “their worm does not die and the fire is not quenched” ~Mark 9:48, and where the wicked will experience “everlasting punishment” ~Matthew 25:46. Scripture never calls it a place of happiness or preference. It is judgment. It is conscious. It is final. Those who reject God die in unbelief and face the second death in the lake of fire ~Revelation 21:8. Hell is real because God is holy, and He warns us now so we will turn to Him while there is still time.

People try to change what Hell is for one simple reason. Scripture’s description of Hell confronts the heart, exposes sin, and removes every illusion of self-rule. When someone refuses the Jesus of the Bible, they must also refuse the judgment He warned about. So they reinvent both. Jesus spoke more about Hell than anyone else, and He described it with clarity, not poetry: everlasting fire ~Matthew 25:46, outer darkness ~Matthew 8:12, unquenchable fire ~Mark 9:43, and no rest day or night ~Revelation 14:11. When people rewrite Hell, it is because they cannot accept the holiness of the One who said these things.

Scripture says the natural heart does not want the truth. People “love darkness rather than light” because their deeds are evil ~John 3:19. If someone rejects the biblical Hell, they are really rejecting the biblical Christ, because the same Jesus who saves is the Jesus who judges ~John 5:22. A false view of Hell always comes from a false view of God. It is easier for the flesh to invent a gentle god with no wrath, no authority, and no final judgment than to bow before the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob who is righteous, holy, and unchanging.

People don’t twist Hell because Scripture is unclear. They twist Hell because their hearts are unwilling. But the truth does not change. Jesus is Lord, His Word is final, and the warnings He gave are real. Eternity is too serious to build beliefs on feelings. Believe what God has said, because His Word is the only truth that will stand on the day every knee bows ~Philippians 2:10.

Where is the holiness of God, if He tortures people forever?

If a serial killer started to torture, maim and kill people because he deems them sinful, and even if they were really sinful, would that make the serial good and holy, because he makes "justice"?

I do not say that God has no wrath or authority, I said God is merciful and good, so He cannot torture and condemn people forever, even if they want to repent.

If God was not gentle, why would He sacrifice Himself for humanity? Why would he pray for the people that mocked and killed him, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do"?

If God truly tortures people forever, even if they want to repent, then He is simply evil, or at least He has a very different definition of holiness and justice that is simply incomprehensible from reason.

Yes, Jesus spoke of everlasting fire and that the worm does not die... but He also said that He is a door and He is the light and the Way.
Do you think Jesus is literally a door to open? Or a way to cross?

Jesus also said that you must eat His flesh and His blood to enter Heavens.
Does that mean we must be cannibalistic to enter Heavens?

And I don't think you believe that the Eucharistic bread is literally the body of Christ, as Catholics believed, because you already said in another message that you believe that all Catholics are going to Hell.

You are judging God by your emotions instead of letting God’s Word judge your emotions. Scripture never teaches that God’s holiness negates His justice. It says the exact opposite. “The Lord is righteous in all His ways” ~Psalm 145: 17, and “His judgments are true and just” ~Revelation 16:7. Jesus Himself said Hell is everlasting fire and conscious punishment ~Matthew 25:41 and ~Matthew 25:46. You are asking the question how a holy God can judge, but Scripture says judgment flows out of His holiness. The fact you compare God to a serial killer is proof your concept of God is driven by emotion and not Scripture. God does not torture innocent people. He judges unrepentant sinners who rejected the only sacrifice for sins ~John 3:36.

You say God “cannot” judge forever, but Scripture says He will. You say people repent in Hell, but Scripture never teaches that. The rich man in Luke 16 never repented. He only wanted comfort. The issue is simple. You reject the biblical Hell because you reject the biblical holiness of God. Jesus warned about Hell more than anyone else because He is merciful. Mercy warns. Judgment comes when mercy is refused.

And hear this loud and clear. Treating God’s warnings lightly is dangerous. God does not play games with sin or with His Word. “It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God” ~Hebrews 10:31. If you will rewrite God to fit your emotions you are not approaching Him in truth. You are approaching Him in rebellion. Turn to the God of Scripture, because every other version is an idol that cannot save on the day you stand before Him.

You're not answering Scripture. You're only arguing around it. I've given you what Jesus plainly said about judgment, and you keep trying to switch to feelings, analogies, and distractions. Scripture says to stop fruitless arguments and to reject a divisive person after warning them ~Titus 3:10. I've given you the truth from the Word. I'm not going to continually circle the same points with someone who won't deal with the text. What you do with God's Word from here on is between you and God.

Just to let people know why I am putting ArkangeMikail on ignore. He posted the following in my PM:

"So for you, are we supposed to blindly follow the Bible without ever thinking? Without asking questions?

If the Word of God orders you to go rape and murder people, will you do it?

Because you seem fine with torturing people forever in hellfire, just because they had wrong beliefs, so I don't think you would deem evil if God directly orders you to eliminate people.

That kind of logic is exactly the same of Jihadists Muslims who believe Allah orders them to kill people for religion."

you are using strawman argument against I

I never said "how a holy God can judge", I am fine with God judging because He is Holy and there is evil in this world that needs to be appropriately punished

I did not compare the True God with a serial killer, I said if YOUR concept of God tortures people for eternity for justice, then He would be similar to a serial killer that tortures people for justice

You say God does not torture innocent people, yet Hell is literally a place of eternal torture.

You say people cannot repent in Hell, because Scripture never teaches that. Yes, but Scripture never teaches about kangaroos, does that mean they don't exist?
If people are in Hell and they can think and are conscious... then they could ask God for forgiveness. So it is possible for people in Hell to repent. And if God refuses their repent, then His mercy has limits.

I am not "re-writing God", I am simply discussing about subjects to confront ideas. I am ready to change my mind about anything because I seek the truth, but you did not convince me.

To answer, you said that I was blasphemous and insulting God

I am reacting to you :

you say that we must always follow the Word of God, so I am asking you : if God commands evil acts, should we do it?

In the Ancient Testament, it is clearly written that we must kill homosexuals and prostitutes and exterminate unbelievers people who worship false gods. Should we do this?

it's not a blaspheme, it's a question

you said comparing God with Jihadists Muslim is wrong and evil.
What I mean is Jihadists Muslims believe they follow the Word of God, and God is commanding to kill people.

So what I asked you is, if Jesus-Christ clearly commands His followers to go war and kill people, should we do it? (I am NOT saying that Jesus-Christ says this, it's a hypothetical question, unless you believe that questions are blasphemous)

People in Hell are happy

I guess when suicides, addictions, relationship breakdowns, low self esteem, hopelessness, disease, death and the deceptiveness of click bait are called happy then the great lie has been successful in its objective.

Nope, it's the worst nightmare EVER, that will never end.

You left out the most important. "They will be tormented day and night FOREVER".

Put your hand on a HOT stove and see how happy you are.

Why don't you quote what Jesus said about Hell?????

@ArkangeMikail Why don't you read the words of Jesus Christ about hell and simply believe what He says?

God is holy and cannot stand sin to be in His presence. That is why when we are forgiven through Christ, our sins are washed away. And we are given the Imputed Righteousness of Jesus Christ....so God doesn't see our sins anymore. We are seen as righteous (our legal standing before God). Because Jesus Christ took our sins and gave us His righteousness.

Jesus also said that you must eat His flesh and His blood to enter Heavens.
Does that mean we must be cannibalistic to enter Heavens?

Jesus is speaking in a metaphor. The following is a comprehensive explanation.

We are punished for the sins we commit against an eturnal God. the punishment fits the offence.

I do believe what Jesus Christ says, but the problem is the strict application of his teachings lead to injustice, such as eternal hell being unfair for sinful people who would like to repent, the idea of God torturing people, or that non-Christians go to hell for not knowing the truth

Eternity has 2 destinations.

Heaven
Hell.

Everyone gets to choose which one they will enter.

"well ive heard that not everyone is going to hear the gospel"..

God will be fair on Judgment Day. And He did create Hell Fire. He knows what He's doing. He knows EVERYTHING! Every thought that was ever thought! Every evil word spoken.

Psalm 147:5
5 Great is our Lord, and mighty in power; His understanding is infinite.

He's the real KNOW IT ALL!
