How do we know when we can ask in Jesus's power and authority to, say, heal a particularly virulent form of brain cancer?
You can always ask but you know for sure it's by Jesus' power and authority when it happens.

This sort of whitewashing is infuriating.
I've heard it all my adult life.
This is why I am a recovering evangelical.
I hear what you're saying, but please go easy on Ms. Deborah_.

The collective experience of the Church historically is that such miracles are few and far between. But we are still told to ask, seek, and knock.

Right, but that boils the promise in John 14:13 down to, "Ask for anything, and if I feel like doing it, I'll do it, and both Father and Son will get the glory."
Matthew 21:22
22 And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive."

That again makes it my fault that my son died. I must not have believed enough.
I don't want to argue about your son. Again, I'm SORRY! I lost a son too. I know it was my fault.

I agree. But the success rate is pathetic.
Makes one wonder if the healings that do occur are from natural causes.

To be clear, I did witness at least one miracle healing.

I repent and trust in God's mercy. We are ALL sinners!
How does one repent for killing their son? If that means promising not to kill any of their other children, I agree, that's a good idea.

BTW, if you want to talk about the situation with your son, I'll listen.

We all have sins we don't want to talk about. That's why Jesus shed His Blood, for our sins.

Not sure how you are arriving at that conclusion.

Not sure how you are arriving at that conclusion.
Explanations for why this scripture is invalid are a bunch of apologetic caveats that are not included in the scripture promises.
The only thing we know for sure is that the likelihood of benefit for these promises is slim to none.
So, what is God doing about it? Nothing it seems.
