Amen. "A change of the Law required a change of the priesthood"....no longer of Levi, but our High Priest is from the line of Judah.
It does say Christ sprang out of Judah (Micah 5:2Mat 2:4-6, Rev 5:5) but as far as the priesthood (which belonged to Levi)
when it come to Judah it also says
Heb 7:14 For
it is evident that our Lord sprang out of Juda;
of which tribe Moses spake nothing concerning priesthood.
So nothing is spoken concerning the priesthood as far as Judah goes either
It even says if he (Jesus)
were on earth he should not be a priest
Heb 8:4 For if
he (Jesus) were on earth, he should not be a priest, seeing that there are priests that offer gifts according to the law:
While on earth Jesus tells these he cleansed to show themselves to the priests
Luke 17:14
And when he (Jesus) saw them, he said unto them,
Go shew yourselves unto the priests. And it came
to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed.
We know Aaron was of levi (preisthood) and our Lord was of Judah (of which tribe
Moses spake nothing concerning the priesthood, at least on earth) whereas out of Judah (where our Lord sprang)
come Kings and the law giver (Gen 49:10, Heb 7:12 ) For
the priesthood being changed, there is made
of necessity a change also
of the law.
Turning back to Hebrews 7:14 again
Heb 7:14 For
it is evident that our Lord sprang out of Juda; of which tribe Moses spake nothing concerning priesthood.
And unlike the Levitical priesthood, Jesus was made a priest by the oath of God, declaring him a priest "for ever" after the order of Melchisedec
Psalm 110:4
The LORD hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.
But if we go back a few verses in that same psalm, it shows this was
after the resurrection of Jesus Christ in Psalm 110:1
Psalm 110:1 [[A Psalm of David.]]
The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.
And so again, even though we know our Lord sprang out of Judah, Hebrews notes that of this tribe Moses speaks nothing concerning the priesthood, but continues, bringing our attention to where the priest (who, by the oath of God is made) and on what basis
Heb 7:15 And
it is yet far more evident: for that after the similitude of Melchisedec
there ariseth another priest,
The next verse speaks of the basis of the resurrection, or "after the power of an endless life"
Heb 7:16
Who is made, not after the law of a carnal commandment,
but after the power of an endless life.
Heb 7:17 For he (God) testifieth,
Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec. (Psalm 110:4)
In contrast to the other priests who were made without an oath, Jesus was made one with an oath
Heb 7:20-21
And inasmuch as not without an oath he was made priest: (For
those priests were made without an oath; but
this
with an oath by him that said unto him, The
LORD sware and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of
Melchisedec )
Heb 7:28 For
the law maketh men high priests which have infirmity; but
the word of the oath, which
was since the law,
maketh the Son, who
is consecrated for evermore.
And in the same way Hebrews tells us
Heb 5:4 And
no man taketh this honour unto himself,
but he that is called of God,
as was Aaron.
Heb 5:5
So also Christ
glorified not himself to be made an high priest; but
he that said unto him,
Thou art my Son,
to day have I begotten thee.
Following thru here into verse 6
Heb 5:6 As he saith also in another place,
Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.(Psalm 110:4)
The second Psalm which had to be fulfilled, which was speaking of the day he was begotten from the dead (Psalm 2:7)
Acts 13:33
God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children,
in that he hath raised up Jesus again;
as it is also written
in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee.
Following the same thru here into verse 34-35
Acts 13:34
And as concerning that he raised him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, he said on this wise,
I will give you the sure mercies of David.
Acts 13:35 Wherefore he saith also in another psalm,
Thou shalt not suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.
So again, the same day Jesus was begotten from the dead he was made a priest for ever
Heb 5:5
So also Christ glorified not himself to be made an high priest; but
he that said unto him, Thou art my Son,
to day have I begotten thee.
And again
Heb 8:4
For if he (Jesus) were on earth, he should not be a priest
As we are told,
For his life is taken from the earth (See Acts 8:33, Isaiah 3:8, Dan 9:26, John 16:7, which followsActs 2:23)
Heb 8:1
Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of
the throne of the Majesty in the heavens
A few verses earlier
Heb 8:3 For
every high priest is ordained to offer gifts and sacrifices: wherefore it is of necessity that this man have somewhat
also to offer.
Ephes 4:8
Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.
Having first recieved of the Father (James 1:17)
Acts 2:33
Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost,
he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.
Where were of
the gifts to be given to men
Psalm 68:18 Thou
hast ascended on high, thou hast led captivity captive: thou hast received gifts for men;
yea,
for the rebellious also, that the LORD God might dwell among them.
Heb 5:10
Called of God an high priest after the order of Melchisedec.
Jesus said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I (John 14:28) Jesus also said, "it is my Father that honoureth me
(see also Heb 5:4) of whom ye say, that he is your God.
Men will swear by the greater (who is the Father) who they might say is their God, and its His oath for confirmation (to them)
which should put an end of all strife concerning this.
Heb 6:16-20 For
men verily swear by
the greater:
and an oath for confirmation is to them
an end of all strife.
Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the
immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath: That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:
Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil; Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.
Many other things can be added into this, but even when Melchisedec was made after the similitude of the Son of God, Hebrews also adds
Heb 7:3
Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually.
Even though would spring from here, the last part of the verse would similarly speak of the same.
Micah 5:2
But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel;
whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.
