Acts 7:55-56
55. But he, being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up steadfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God,
56. and said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God.

I do not see a need to call it "rapture", but yes, we go to heaven when we die. Calling it rapture, spiritual resurrection... possible, but it does not bring any more new information than simple words, IMO.

So, point is, we are 'taken up' at the point of death.

Yes, we are. But the biblical term "rapture" meant something different. The first church expected to be taken to heaven without dying physically.

I would say Stephan is in the grave awaiting the resurrection of the dead. He will have no consciousness of the passing of time from the moment he fell 'asleep' to the moment 'when this mortal puts on immortality'

1 Corinthians 50:50-54
I declare to you, brothers and sisters, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed— in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.

Read the verse you posted carefully. Paul said that not all of them would die. Paul was not talking to you or me, but to the first century Christians. The victory has already happened from our point of view.

I would also say....read with care.
The first century believers had no idea that the return of Jesus would be over 2000 yrs away. They had hoped and expected Jesus return to be in their generation.....even Paul, at the time of writing.
Paul expected to be alive when Jesus returned. Later he realise it was still in the future and that he would give his life for the message he bore.

It is easier to determine and understand what applies to a single Individual, than the whole human race.

Glory to God,

If you do not believe in the inspiration of Paul (and of other apostles too), then yes, you can say that he was simply wrong, mistaken and that he did not reveal any mystery. In that case why to post the verse at all, if you do not believe it?
