Should we reverence anything but God?

What sort of things are reverenced inappropriately?

What behaviors of others illicit indignation on your part?
Due to their perceived irreverence.

Is it blasphemy to speak irreverently about things other than God?
The church, the Bible, a denomination or practice?

When you reverence something, isn't that worship on some level?
Possibly even idolatry?

Irreverence amounts to the condemnation of others.
To condemn those whom God has forgiven leaves no room to tell them THE Good News. All that is left is to advise them; to insist they jump through your favourite hoops while kidding yourself you have been a faithful witness to God.

Should we reverence anything but God?
Yes....since reverence is defined as....”deep respect for someone or something.” Can we have deep respect for persons other than God...? Of course, but it depends on the level....as long as it doesn’t descend into worship, we can have deep respect for our parents and others whom we hold in high esteem.
What sort of things are reverenced inappropriately?
Idols.....whatever humans idolize. In today’s world the list is long.
We usually find crowds flocking to worship their idols in ‘temples’ accomodating large crowds, making offerings to them (usually money and adulation)
This can be in sports stadiums, watching their idols running around on a bit of grass with a ball of some sort, or celebrities whose presence at film festivals is treated with reverence, or at pop concerts with thousands of adoring “fans” (short for fanatics) carried away by the presence of their idol(s) as they respond to the music.
What behaviors of others illicit indignation on your part?
Due to their perceived irreverence.
Isn’t it obvious? Whatever you give the main focus in your life is a “god” to you.

Paul spoke of those of those who had wandered off the path and on into wrongdoing...
“Brothers, join in imitating me, and keep your eyes on those who walk according to the example you have in us. For many, of whom I have often told you and now tell you even with tears, walk as enemies of the cross of Christ. Their end is destruction, their god is their belly, and they glory in their shame, with minds set on earthly things.” (Phil 3:17-19 ESV)

For some food is their idol, as the fast food industry produces more and more addicts, joining the growing crowd of the morbidly obese.

Is it blasphemy to speak irreverently about things other than God?
The church, the Bible, a denomination or practice?
If something or someone is clearly out of harmony with God’s Standards, we would reject them or their behaviour outright, principally because God would reject them.
If they want to change their lives and come to the true God, then we would be there to help them.

Blatant disregard for God’s standards, if not identified and called out, would in turn encourage others to sink to ‘the level of the lowest common denominator’, which is sadly the result of our fallen human nature. We have to be constantly on guard so as not to have our standards eroded by satan’s world. (1 John 2:15-17)
A constant drip of water can create a deep crevice in rock over time....erosion takes time....satan is the drip.
When you reverence something, isn't that worship on some level?
Possibly even idolatry?
Possibly, but it must be identified regardless of the “level”.
We are told to be “faithful in what is least” so that being faithful in the bigger things will be a lot easier. This principle at Luke 16:10 cannot be disregarded....a little poison will make us sick, even if we drink it down with clean filtered water.

Irreverence amounts to the condemnation of others.
Did Jesus condemn others? Was he irreverent to the religious leaders of his day? Read Matt 23.
To condemn those whom God has forgiven leaves no room to tell them THE Good News.
If they already know that they are living a life that alienates them from God, they have to know that God will not forgive those who are unrepentant. If they come to that realisation on their own, and want to come to Christ, then yes, we will be there to encourage them, but the onus is on them to clean up their act. God will help but he won’t do it for them.
All that is left is to advise them; to insist they jump through your favourite hoops while kidding yourself you have been a faithful witness to God.
If the “hoops” are those which Jesus himself provided, then there is an obligation to make them aware of those “hoops”. It doesn’t depend on the messengers being perfect, as Jesus’ apostles demonstrated. It does depend on them not being obvious hypocrites by admonishing a lifestyle to others that they themselves were not living. God hates hypocrites! But if we are humble and obedient, God can use us and our own experiences to teach others.

Those of us who were in the world before we knew God and his son, have a lot to be ashamed about, but this is the beauty of Christianity.....forgiveness is guaranteed, as long as we leave the old self behind, and “put on the new personality”.....it was illustrated to me like taking off an old soiled garment and throwing it in the trash...we wouldn’t hang it up in the wardrobe to be put on again later, when we felt like it. If it’s gone...it won’t come back to cause us harm.

Jeremiah 13:23
Can an Ethiopian change his skin or a leopard its spots?
Neither can you do good who are accustomed to doing evil.

Romans 8:7
Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be.

Jeremiah 13:23
Can an Ethiopian change his skin or a leopard its spots?
Neither can you do good who are accustomed to doing evil.
Do you really have any idea about the context or real application of the Scriptures you quote?

Who was Jeremiah talking about? Who were the ones who could not be reformed? Who were those who became accustomed to doing evil? Read verses 25 & 27.
Romans 8:7
Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be.
For you this means that anyone who has relied on knowledge of the Scriptures rather than on a personal “born again” experience, must of necessity have a carnal mind, which you apparently do not possess.
Who said that was true?

You use Scripture selectively (and out of context) like a big stick....to reinforce your own views which are not backed up by Scripture at all, and that don’t appear to be held by many others here. As you do not identify with any particular brotherhood, can you tell me why you think you can be a true Christian without one?

Our brotherhood must be in agreement, (1 Cor 1:10) or else the Holy Spirit is not operating in the way it always has....to separate God’s true worshippers from the multitude of those who think that they can believe whatever they like, and still render to God acceptable worship.

At “the end” there will only be “sheep” and “goats”....and Jesus is the one who determines which is which....most will be shocked when he reveals the awful truth. They are not expecting it. (Matt 7:21-23)

That being the case, shouldn’t we all examine our beliefs carefully? How can we do that without God’s word, which he has carefully preserved down to our day, despite many attempts to destroy it.

Everyone's paradigm will come out in the wash. All the yada yada in justification of ones words will be salted with fire.

Quiet, this is becoming a difficult look for you, even when Jane corrects you, you show no willingness to learn from it. Yet another one-liner "yada yada" to add to a long list of poor excuses for revealing a closed mind.

No doubt you find my 'one liners' too succinct to grasp. Perhaps metaphor passes you by as incomprehensible?

“Succinct”? Do you know the difference between being “succinct” and downright confusing? I am often left wondering what you mean a great deal of the time.

You double down on everything that challenges your own paradigm....even Scripture cannot get to a closed heart. Be open to what the word of God is telling you QT.....methinks you are alone in your own thoughts too much. Is your isolation a choice? Is it hiding some past trauma? I feel there is a long story in your past that makes you stubbornly hang on to what you think the Scriptures teach...but you are not open to anything that challenges it.

If those replies contain any gems of truth, then the answer is no.
Sorry Hidden, you by pass by the point.....trying to establish that metaphor and succinct replies do not establish gems of truth.
The waffle undercuts your intelligence!

You need to stop these pointless replies, as they are meaningless and only highlight your inability to learn and grow. We have clearly seen your struggle to enter the Word of God, and your reliance on one-liners has been exposed. It is now time for you to step aside and read with the intent to practice His Truth. Distinguishing between good and evil can be very difficult, and it takes years of practice to mature in the ways of God. Set aside all doubt and approach with a willing heart, identify an area of weakness in your walk and learn to develop it into a strength. But stop relying on all your defense mechanisms, as they serve only to harm you.

Try not to judge people’s motives, Quiet. Everything I’ve written regarding your manner and resistance to entering God’s Word has been said with complete sincerity. However, you have persisted in your resistance toward me and others for as long as I have been reading your posts.

It seems to me that you need to earn the right to be heard.
