We all do know that the prophecy of Rev. is full of symbolic language from God the Father, who speaks in the Past, the Present and the Future, ALL at the SAME time.
My added edit:
The concept of the SUN being hazed or one third of its light is being blocked out is so unbelievable, it's just NOT believable that it is actually men who are "smiting" the SUN.

We should not think that the prophecies in Rev. should always be interpreted in a chronological order.
In Rev. 8:6-12, though the situations are ochestrated by satan, the literal events are delivered through man.
Verses 7-12 appear to describe a Nuclear war, or something like it on that level.

[6] And the seven angels which had the seven trumpets prepared themselves to sound.
[7] The first angel sounded, and there followed hail and fire mingled with blood, and they were cast upon the earth: and the third part of trees was burnt up, and all green grass was burnt up.
[8] And the second angel sounded, and as it were a great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea: and the third part of the sea became blood;
[9] And the third part of the creatures which were in the sea, and had life, died; and the third part of the ships were destroyed.
[10] And the third angel sounded, and there fell a great star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of waters;

[11] And the name of the star is called Wormwood: and the third part of the waters became wormwood; and many men died of the waters, because they were made bitter.

[12] And the fourth angel sounded, and the third part of the sun was smitten, and the third part of the moon, and the third part of the stars; so as the third part of them was darkened, and the day shone not for a third part of it, and the night likewise.

I perceive that the next turn of events will be WW3, as also shown in Rev. 9:13-21.

Through the years, I have learned to understand that God speaks from His Eternity, being that He speaks in the past, present and future, ALL at the SAME time.
You and I cannot do that. Therefore, we must HAVE the mind of Christ (aka the Holy Spirit) in order to comprehend Him.

I also learned that we must understand how it is that the Lord's written words are manifested to us on 5 different levels, and often interchangeably. Those levels of manifestation are seen as being:
1. His literal words,
2. His historical words,
3. His prophetical words,
4. His spiritual words,
5. His eternal words.

To "HAVE the mind of Christ", is exactly what is being said in
2 Cor. 4[7] But we HAVE this treasure [of GodHimself] in [our] earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.
