I haven't seen the movie, and probably won’t, but my wife and daughter took my grandson to see it a few weeks ago. They didn’t have much to say about it afterward. If you’re thinking about going to the movie or allowing your child to watch it, here is a link to a pastor’s review.

Watch the movie or don’t watch the movie. The decision is yours. But it’s wise to have some idea of what you will be filling your mind with, what you will be filling your child’s mind with, before you go. It may not be what you think it is.

If you’ve seen the movie, what did you think about it?

Thanks for sharing.

Sadly, with few exceptions, movies designed for public acceptance do not embrace the truths in the Bible. The writers and produce missed a great opportunity to persuade agnostics how God can make a difference in their lives, if only they will embrace Him as guide and mentor, and that only by Him will they have abundant lives and hope for the future.

Blessings.

I wish they would have done a real life movie. Animation just does not seem real.

Too expensive.

I plan to see the movie. I try to support Christian artists like The Chosen and Angel Studios.

My feelings are they did a better job with Bugs Bunny. If I am wrong let me know! Tell me how wrong I am and I won't mind. I just thought a whole lot more could have been done with the story. It didn't seem real to me.

How far can a movie contradict / deviate from scripture before it becomes an issue for “you”?

Excellent question!

My Requirement for a positive recommendation: The outline or summary must be true to scripture. All of the additional parts must support scripture and what we know about the culture and environment of the time.

So: does The Chosen get a “thumbs up”? For me, a neutral review: the scripture may be accurate, but there is much too much filler that (to me) is not interesting. (Rough analogy: would you watch an entire 2-hour marathon from start to finish? Or just the first 10 minutes, updates if there are big changes, and the finish?)

Blessings.

Sadly, there are too many myths created within Christendom to embellish the various stories which created a false narrative. For example, the age of Isaac when he went with his father to be placed upon the wood to be sacrificed was not as a 12-year-old boy but rather Isaac was more probably around 30-33 years of age because after this event, Isaac never returned home with his father but rather he went and live in the south whether by himself or with servants, but the scriptures are silent on this. He did return home when Sarah, his mother died and took his mother's tent to live in from that time onwards.

These myths sadly are woven into the storyline often presented.

I am sure that we know of many more "Christian" myths that we blindly accept.

What is hidden in the myth of Isaac being a "child" is that Isaac, as a 30–33-year-old adult, willingly complied and allowed himself to become the sacrifice upon the wood.

This is one aspect of this story that we ignore about Isaac.

Thank you for this enlightenment.

Do you know of any sermons discussing this aspect of the story? In contrast, in (John) Gill’s exposition we find the following:

“He [Abraham] had left [the young men] at a certain place with the ass, while he and Isaac went to the mount to worship; and who stayed there till he came to them, according to his order; [in 22.19] no mention is made of Isaac, but there is no doubt that he returned with Abraham, since we hear of him afterwards in his house.”

On the one hand, Isaac’s age is not central to the point of the story, namely, the essential importance of obedience to God. On the other hand, our mind’s eye of the picture is drastically altered if Isaac is 30 vs 12!

More discussion would be welcome here.

Blessings.

You are right that the Age of Isaac is not completely essential to the importance of the story, however, if Isac was 18 years older in this story, then it paints a very different picture where Isaac trusted His father and God that the right outcome would occur.

As for your claim that Isaac had returned with Abraham to Abraham's house, this is not supported in the scriptures. What we are told some 7-10 years later that Isaac went and took his mother's tent after she had died and returned to the south from where Abraham lived. How long Isaac remained in Abraham's house to remember and help bury his mother is silent in the scriptures. However, we are told that Isaac after his mother died took her tent to live in.

There is much more to glean from the Genesis account concerning Isaac's reaction to being offered up as a sacrifice to God than first meets the eye. It all depends on how hard we want to milk Isaac's story.
