The meaning is God with us. That was Jesus. Believers called Him that. The angel delivered the name from heaven. Just when we needed to know. Jesus was described. His life, death resurrection etc. Heaven sent the name just before He was born to a virgin

Sad but that was the way it worked out. Yeshua is the Messiah and Son of God and a God. But the Jews had no reason to think that the Messiah would be a God.
If the prophecies would have foretold that they would wait 700 years just to get the Son of God killed they would have probably ran for the hills and would not had anything to do with Judaism. The wrath of Yahweh upon some one that killed His Son.
The Old Testament reason for a Messiah did not include saving souls for Heaven. Heaven is not offered as a reward in the Old Testament.
