Sickle cell cure using gene therapy

OK, I never knew gene therapy used stem cells but I looked it up. Is it stem cells from unborn children that are an issue or the changing of DNA or both?
Well, I may have misunderstood the technique they're using. Changing the DNA sounds shifty.
If they're using stem cells that are obtained from the person's own body, no problem. Taking them from babies would be wrong. They usually would use aborted babies.

My best friend during Elementary and Junior High suffered sickle cell anemia. She was always in pain.

"It took two years for the 23-year-old from Metairie to complete the treatment, first delayed while waiting for approval under Louisiana’s Medicaid program. Once approved, he then had to undergo the lengthy and expensive process of changing the gene that causes his red blood cells to sickle, or harden and bend in a way that blocks blood flow and causes immense pain. The drug alone cost $2.2 million.
Cressy took the first step in treatment last July. His stem cells were extracted over three days to be sent to a lab in Scotland. The lab used an enzyme to reach and edit a specific part of Cressy’s cell to stop it from sickling. Then, this spring, he went through chemotherapy to receive the newly edited genes."
I dunno...I guess all the talk of covid shots being gene therapy and changing your DNA got to me. I was wondering in people would still be against gene therapy in a situation like this
For me, absolutely against it. Changing your DNA from what GOD created?? That can't end well.
