I was brought up Charles Stanley type Baptist and Pentecostal Holiness. They both believed in a rapture. Whatever you may call it... I will take the first resurrection thank you!

Scripture teaches that Jesus Christ's resurrection was the first resurrection and anyone who has part in His resurrection are priests of God and of Christ and reign with Him now and the second death has no power over them.

The first resurrection:

Acts 26:23 that the Christ would suffer, that He would be the first to rise from the dead, and would proclaim light to the Jewish people and to the Gentiles.”

1 Corinthians 15:20 But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. 21 For since by man came death, by Man also came the resurrection of the dead. 22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive. 23 But each one in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, afterward those who are Christ’s at His coming.

Having part in the first resurrection (Christ's resurrection):

Colossians 2:12 buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead. 13 And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses,

Romans 6:8 Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, 9 knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, dies no more. Death no longer has dominion over Him. 10 For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God. 11 Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

The priests of God and of Christ:

Revelation 1:5 and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler over the kings of the earth. To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood, 6 and has made us kings and priests to His God and Father, to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.

1 Peter 2:5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ
. 6 Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded. 7 Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner, 8 And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed. 9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light; 10 Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

Greetings Spiritual Israelite,
The first resurrection:
1 Corinthians 15:20 But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. 21 For since by man came death, by Man also came the resurrection of the dead. 22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive. 23 But each one in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, afterward those who are Christ’s at His coming.
The faithful will be raised from the dead when Jesus returns, as stated above, "afterward those who are Christ’s at His coming" and they will receive immortality and reign with Jesus upon the earth for the 1000 years. This is the first resurrection. The second will be at the end of the 1000 years.

Kind regards
Trevor

Revelation 20:6 "The First Resurrection" Explained

There will be "Two Future Resurrections" on "The Last Day" the righteous saved are "Blessed" to be in "The First Resurrection" to eternal life, the second death resurrection has no power over the righteous saved

The second death will see the unsaved wicked being in "The Second Resurrection" to eternal damnation in the lake of fire, or the "Second Death"

"The Last Day" Resurrection of "All"

John 6:39-40KJV

39 And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.
40 And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.

Revelation 20:6KJV
6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.

1.) The First Resurrection To Eternal Life
2.) The Second Resurrection To Eternal Damnation, Second Death

John 5:28-29KJV
28 Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice,
29 And shall come forth;
they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.

(The First Resurrection Of The Righteous Saved) The Dead In Christ Shall Rise "First"

1 Thessalonians 4:16KJV
16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

(The Second Resurrection Of The Wicked To The Second Death In Eternal Damnation)

Revelation 20:13-14KJV
13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.
14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.

Greetings Spiritual Israelite,

The faithful will be raised from the dead when Jesus returns, as stated above, "afterward those who are Christ’s at His coming" and they will receive immortality and reign with Jesus upon the earth for the 1000 years. This is the first resurrection. The second will be at the end of the 1000 years.
Look at the order more carefully. Paul indicated that the first resurrection in order was Christ's resurrection. The mass bodily resurrection of the dead in Christ at His second coming is second in order in 1 Corinthians 15:23.

Jesus said an hour/time is coming at which point all of the dead will be resurrected, not one resurrection followed by another 1,000 years later.

John 5:28 Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice 29 and come forth—those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation.

I consider myself Pentecostal Holiness / Baptist. In which there is a great many in my parts. I thought that every Christian believed in the rapture before posting on web sites. I would say that most Christians don't take much thought on the hereafter. The average Christian's church experience...

Hatched - Some were baptized infants
Latched - When they marry
Dispatched - Whey they leave this earth

Considering it good to get in a "Hail Mary!" or a last minute prayer before they go! I consider it a good thing to anticipate some kind of meeting with God as the effects are good...

Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure. - 1 John 3:2-3

Do you mean you thought every Christian believed in a pre-trib rapture or in the rapture in general, regardless of whether it was pre, mid or post trib?

I would say pre-trib...

36 But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.
37 But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,
39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
40 Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
41 Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
42 Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.
43 But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up.
44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh. - Matthew 24

Noting... "But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only." If we had anything else it would be rather well announced. It would be nice to have had something like....

2053 AD - PreTrib Rapture
2060 AD - Return with Christ

But it wasn't God's intentions of us being that good. If I had to go with date picking I would call Isaac Newton as the closest...

And I heard the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand unto heaven, and sware by him that liveth for ever that it shall be for a time, times, and an half. -Daniel 12:7

From a folio cataloged as Yahuda MS 7.3g, f. 13v:

"So then the time times & half a time are 42 months or 1260 days or three years & an half, reckoning twelve months to a year & 30 days to a month as was done in the Calendar of the primitive year. And the days of short lived Beasts being put for the years of lived kingdoms, the period of 1260 days, if dated from the complete conquest of the three kings A.C. 800, will end A.C. 2060." - Isaac Newton

As Charlemagne was crowned king on December 25, 800 by Pope Leo the III so the day of Christ's coming may be on Christmas Day, 2060. If the rapture of the saints (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17) occurs seven years before the time of Christ's coming the date of the rapture 12.25 2053. However Isaac Newton notes...

"It may end later, but I see no reason for its ending sooner. This I mention not to assert when the time of the end shall be, but to put a stop to the rash conjectures of fancifull men who are frequently predicting the time of the end, & by doing so bring the sacred prophesies into discredit as often as their predictions fail. Christ comes as a thief in the night, & it is not for us to know the times & seasons which God hath put into his own breast." - Isaac Newton

So, you're saying you had thought all Christians believed in a pre-trib rapture? Are you aware that none of the early church fathers wrote about a pre-trib rapture and that it was not a view that anyone taught until around the early 19th century? And it has been the minority view of Christians ever since? It was popular for awhile in the U.S. because of the Left Behind books and such, but it was still the minority view in the church, overall. Christians in other countries have not believed in it as much as American Christians have.

Don't be deceived brethren in Christ.

Much of what is suggested in this thread is actually not written in God's Word.

1. Lord Jesus showed in Matthew 24 and Mark 13 that His future coming to gather His Church will be after... the tribulation, NOT prior to it. The pre-trib rapture idea is from men, not from God, and is not written anywhere in His Word.

2. Zechariah 9:9-10 declare the only TWO comings by Lord Jesus Christ. The 1st one was His coming to die on the cross, meek as a lamb. His 2nd coming will be about defeating Satan and his host on earth and taking reign over all... kingdoms upon this earth, with His 'faithful' elect who were NOT deceived, especially at the end of this world.

3. Christ's Church does not rapture to Heaven. Nowhere does Apostle Paul teach that the Church is gathered by Lord Jesus to go back into Heaven. Instead, Paul taught that all still alive on earth on that day of Christ's 2nd coming will be 'changed' "at the twinkling of an eye" to their "spiritual body", and the saints will be "caught up" in the clouds to meet Jesus in the "air" on His way to the Mount of Olives, east of Jerusalem on earth, per Zechariah 14.

4. Per Paul's 'change' at the twinkling of an eye on that day of Christ's 2nd coming, all souls will immediately be changed to their spirit bodies, which is a heavenly type body that can exist and live upon this earth. This present world with man in a flesh body will be over, and never again happen. This is why Jesus showed in John 5:28-29 about both a resurrection of the Just and a resurrection of the unjust will happen on the day of His 2nd coming.

5. The "resurrection of damnation" will be about the wicked manifesting in a spirit body also, but their souls will still be in a mortal liable to die state, subject to the "second death". Lord Jesus showed in Revelation 3 that He will make those of the "synagogue of Satan" to come worship at the feet of His elect Church of Philadelphia in that future "thousand years" period of Revelation 20.

6. Lord Jesus showed in Matthew 7 and Matthew 25 that He will rebuke those believers who stray to follow the doctrines of men instead of staying in His Word. He will close the door on those and they will be assigned a place with the hypocrites during His "thousand years" reign with His elect.

7. Lord Jesus' main WARNING for the Church at the END of this world is to not be deceived by any man, particularly by the coming false-Messiah that is to appear in Jerusalem first, exalting himself in place of God, and over all that is called God, or that is worshiped. That false-Messiah will have the power of great signs, lying wonders, and miracles that will deceive the whole world, except for Christ's very elect that will reign with Him when He returns (See 2 Thess.2; Matt.24:23-26; Rev.13:4-8 and Rev.13:11-14).

Revelation 20:4 (KJV) And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and [I saw] the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received [his] mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.

Emphasis mine. Clear post tribulation language as the first resurrection includes those whom are martyred during the great tribulation.

Revelation 20:6 (KJV) Blessed and holy [is] he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.

Anyone teaching a pretrib rapture/resurrection is deceived or a deceiver and has no love for the truth.

Only one I see here doing that "rash conjectures of fancifull men who are frequently predicting the time of the end," IS YOU!

That is what falsely presenting a Pre-trib Rapture theory that supposedly happens PRIOR to the "great tribulation" does. Jesus showed in that His future coming to gather His saints will be AFTER... the tribulation (Matt.24:29-31; Mark 13:24-27). And that is unchangeable per His Word.

If there is no first resurrection how are we going to return with Christ to reign a thousand years?

Who said there won't be a first resurrection? I don't recall anyone here saying that.

Here's the difference with WHO will take part in that "first resurrection".

1. there are those who understand that Christ's servants are to make a 'stand' at the end of this world during the "great tribulation", giving a Testimony for Jesus against the beast when they are delivered up, and will thus speak what The Holy Spirit gives them to say in that "hour" (See Mark 13). These also understood Jesus when He revealed that His future 2nd coming to gather His 'faithful' Church will be AFTER... that tribulation (per Matt.24 and Mark 13 with 1 Thess.4 as a parallel). Many of these will be beheaded for that Witness for Jesus (per the 5th Seal prophecy about the end).

2. those in Christ who go through the "great tribulation" that are not delivered up, but still remain solid in the Faith, refusing to bow in false worship, refusing the mark, and waiting on Lord Jesus to come after the tribulation.

3. then there are those who listen to 'men', and not to God's Word as written with man's pre-trib rapture theory which was created by men and not by God, and only began to be preached in the Church in the 1800's in Great Britain. For 1,800 years, the Christian Church unanimously held to a post-tribulational coming and gathering of the Church by Lord Jesus. And in Ezekiel 13, which God often put more details of end time matters in His Old Testament prophets, reveals that God is against those preachers who teach His people to fly to save their souls.

For Christ's saints at the end, only nos.1 & 2 will be included in that "first resurrection" of Revelation 20 that will reign with Christ over the nations for the "thousand years".

Those of no.3 that did not remain faithful waiting on Jesus to come after the trib, will be cast to the "outer darkness" with the hypocrites and stand in judgment throughout the "thousand years", nor allowed to approach Lord Jesus during that "thousand years." (See Matthew 25 about the "unprofitable servant"). These will be taught their error, as Christ's coming Millennial reign will be a great time of teaching believers the difference between the clean and unclean, the holy and the profane.

Hello,

Who will be a part of the first resurrection?

Revelation 20:4- 6
4 Then I saw thrones and seated on them were those to whom the authority to judge was committed. Also I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for the testimony of Jesus and for the word of God, and those who had not worshiped the beast or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years. 5 The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended. This is the first resurrection. 6 Blessed and holy is the one who shares in the first resurrection! Over such the second death has no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ, and they will reign with him for a thousand years.
ESV
In verse 4a we have,

"Then I saw thrones and seated on them were those to whom the authority to judge was committed."

In Verse 4b we have,

"Also I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for the testimony of Jesus and for the word of God, and those who had not worshiped the beast or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.

The next question is when do the ones of the First Resurrection, resurrected?

The question that needs to be answered is when does Isaiah 24:21-22 occur and Satan, the beasts and the little Horn are judged, kicked out of heaven and imprisoned in the Bottomless Pit for 1,000 years?

The answer to this question is at the beginning of the seventh age of mankind which will begin, from my understanding, in the year 2045 AD. Matthew 24:32 confirms this year within a year or too either way.

The second resurrection will not commence until Satan has been dispatched into the Lake of fire just after the beast and the false prophet have been captured and dispatched into the lake of fire first.

Then, as Revelation 20:11-15 tells us, the second resurrection will take place and the peoples of the earth will be judged with some going into the Lake of Fire and others who will receive their inheritance as the Sons of God.

Shalom

Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power,
Does that apply only to a select few believers in a future event???
What about people of the past who committed to Jesus in the same way? Are they still vulnerable to the second death.
Our Lord doesn't seem to think so.

Jn 5
24 “Truly, truly, I say to you, the one who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.
25 Truly, truly, I say to you, a time is coming and even now has arrived, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live.

I’m glad you brought that up because I believe it applies to all believers. I think, although I can’t say for sure, that the second death is literally the second death. The first death is the condition we’re born in and the second death is when we die.

Mat 8:22 But Jesus said unto him, Follow me; and let the dead (condition we’re born in) bury their dead (people who died).

The first resurrection is Jesus. Check the Bible. It is through that we have our part in Christ and overcome the second death.

No. Mat 8:22 "let the dead (the spiritually dead) bury their dead (the naturally dead)."
