I believe the commandment is about bearing false witness against another to hurt them, like in court, or to damage someone's reputation. What do you think?

What if someone asks you a personal question about yourself that is none of their business, and you don't own up to it and tell them the truth? Do we have to tell them? I remember Jesus avoided answering questions about Himself, by asking them to answer a trick question first.

I personally disagree with that theological perspective that we are free of sin. I believe we are never free of sin. John 3 never says being born again frees you from sinning. You have no other option but to confess to God

1 John 1:8
8 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us

Did you know you are now using 1 John 1:8 as a license to sin? It is no longer "reckoning" yourself free from sin. Which verse are you going to live up, or down, to. Your verse is about mankind before confessing to Christ. All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Only He can take away your sin once you repent, so you are cleansed of ALL UNRIGHTEOUSNESS. Did you get that? ALL UNRIGHTEOUSNESS. When you finally repent, you can actually feel a heaviness lift out of your body, and all your desire to commit lawless sin (breaking a commandment of God willfully) is gone.

To keep my privacy, I lied. But it was so hard to do. It was like having to shoot someone that was trying to shoot me. Even though that is self defense it is still not natural.

Interesting to consider the difference between "not to lie for no reason" and "not to lie for any reason".
I acn think of plenty of reasons to lie ... mostly to do with protecting other people.

I realized it was an old post. But when I read it I saw it as a license to sin. That's the first time I ever received that contradiction knowledge. Though I realize you don't want to engage, I hope you at least think about that. You are not the only one that has been taught that verse which contradicts the actual gospel. For the 3rd time I'm not wishing to debate you on this. I was mearly just saying what I would do. What you believe and want to do is totally up to you.

That verse does not say you have a license to sin, it says your are deceiving yourself if you think you are free from sinning.

You thought you were free from sinning.
You thought you were a perfect human.
You thought you could never make a mistake
Yet here you are, admitting you have sinned.
That says it all.

Now your tormented and distraught by your own sinful actions.
Yet your too stubborn and proud (a sin in itself) to pray to God for forgiveness.

I think you need to have a deep think about that instead of trying to argue about it

I even said please.

I wouldn't have minded if you had disagreed at all, 1stCenturyLady disagrees. People disagree on things all the time, I'm fine with that.

But being accused of lying is something that I do take personally and will directly ask someone where I have lied, which is all I did.

In the end I did suggested you were referring to that verse anyway.

Folks, see what happens when I confessed a sin? I get called names, when this OP is in itself a prayer to God for forgiveness, and an assumption I haven't already many times. I've been forgiven, yet this is a good subject for all of us to talk about, seeing both sides - that of the victim, and that of the perpetrator causing someone to sin.
