No, they're not, I agree... <chuckles> And neither are night or darkness (if both are referred to literally) the same as evil, or evil at all. <smile> So you kinda make my point for me here, actually... <smile>The night and darkness are not the same.
You're conflating two different things, RWB. Two different senses in which a thing is meant.Night comes from the darkness, but the darkness did not come from the night. Darkness loves the night, and is most active in the night, because fallen man like the darkness of night which is natural to the night to hide their wicked deeds. But from the fall God says the whole world lies in darkness that is not natural and naturally of the night but is spiritual darkness that rules in the heart and mind of fallen man.
And I disagree with you regarding "night coming from darkness," I guess... <smile> But yet again, "darkness" ~ the absence of light ~ we can talk about very in two different senses... a.) literally speaking, when one hemisphere of earth is not facing the sun, when the sun is on the other side of the earth... <chuckles> ..., and b.) figuratively speaking, in reference to, yes, evil. You're conflating those two things.
I think you misunderstand what this knowledge is, RWB. It is not a cognitive thing only. And this is very important in several places in Scripture, here in Genesis 1 included. It is an intimate acquaintance with something, an attachment to it, and it can be spoken of regarding several things, including a man knowing his wife... which you should get... <smile>God created mankind without them knowing good or evil.
Ugh. I mean I pretty much agree with you here, RWB, but... "use evil from the darkness"... I mean, yeah, as you cited before, "The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it" (John 1.5). And, Jesus is the light of the world," (John 8:12)... He has "overcome the world" (John 16:33). But this light is of a different sense entirely from when God says, in Genesis 1:3, "God said, “Let there be light." So it is with 'darkness' in Isaiah 45 and Genesis 1....from the beginning of time in His plan to save creation God would use evil from the darkness to turn His people to the Light of eternal life that is found through Christ Jesus, the Saviour of the world.
Grace and peace to you.
