Surveys show that the majority of people believe there is a soul. Including atheists. I think we all have this sense of self and that this part of us cannot just be the product of meaningless matter or a figment of our imaginations.
Christ speaks this way a lot and so do the disciples. About storing up treasures in heaven rather than in this life where they can rot and be stolen or end up meaning nothing. Or the ultimate sacrifice of life for another. Which goes against every cell in our bodies that seek to survive and live.
So I guess if there is a soul and afterlife and Jesus says he is the way to saving your soul and that afterlife. I would think you can lose it by rejecting that way.
Whereever the lost soul goes I do not know. But it cannot be the same as a saved soul in Gods kindgom. Which is heaven where we can store our treasures now in this life. So I would imagine losing your soul starts in this life we live.

‘Soul’ is a pretty tough thing to define, so many people have so many different opinions on what it is. But since the rule of the board is to test things with Scripture, it makes it a little easier for us.
We are urged to live good lives, like is the will and nature of the Father, so that we may be raised up and spend our life after death in His city, the new Jerusalem for His tribe.
If we don’t, we are purged by fire for an eternity, not fire that consumes, because the people there are said to gnash their teeth and moan. You can’t do that if you are consumed.
We are transformed one way or another, either through our love or through His fire. Our soul will have to lose it’s bad inclination before it is ready to enter into the new world. If you have a wooden table that falls apart, but cut a small board out of it that’s still reliable and make another table with new wood and the little piece that’s still fine, can you still say the old table lives?

Thought provoking analogy. Is 'the box' above, your soul? Or is it the things 'in the box'? Or is it both? If you lost the teddy bear is your soul lost?In your understanding, what does it mean "to lose your soul"?

What's THE briefest definition of 'soul' from 'your' opinion? As we both know, many threads, have argued even that aspect endlessly here. But I hope you will share your definition and apply it to this verse.

That verse I understand to be helping someone to return to the right path. To do so is an expression of love, and love likewise covers a multitude of sins.
The soul, I've heard compared to two wolves. A dark one associated with destruction, greed, envy. And a light wolf associated with fruits of the spirit. Which one prevales, the on you feed.
This modern parable has a basis in truth from Romans 6:16.
The bible compares the soul to a land in which a spring flows. From God comes all good things. Christ is the source of living water which gives life to our soul. Living in this world sucks the life from us, leaving the soil hard, barren, and dead. This leads to callousness of heart and despair. But through his word and the Spirit within us, we do not need to be ignorant of what is helpful and what is harmful. And we can choose what is good.

Thank you for your response @lforrest , and I totally agree with your 'first sentence', above. But something has always made me curious with the James verse.

Why do you think it says "a multitude of sins"? Why not, 'the sin' you are helping them with? Or, even more importantly why doesn't it say 'covers ALL your sins'?
That same question now arises with your quote of 1Pet 4:8.
1PE 4:8 Above all hold unfailing your love for one another, since love covers a multitude of sins.
Why "a multitude" and not 'ALL'? Just a question I have asked myself for many years. And pending your response. I'd like to share the 'answer' I believe the "anointing" (1Joh 2:27) revealed to me since this thread started.
I've heard that analogy before, and it comes from an old Cherokee legend, which is not bible.
Not familiar with this "bible compares the soul to a land in which a spring flows." Can you share that reference?

. Then, looking closer, I thought it stood for 'I for rest'. But when I tried to add a @ to the front of @lforrest....it would not 'tag' your name. The Life (Gods Breath) IN your soul belongs to God.
Ezek 18:
[4] Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.
Your soul IS “Only IN your Body”, When your body is mortally Alive /Living.
While your soul IS IN your mortal living body, YOU control your soul.
YOU, can exercise YOUR FREEWILL, TO subject your Soul to yield, follow, believe IN God…. IN Satan…IN nothing…

After your mortal (bodily Death) your living soul shall depart out of your Dead Body…

In Ezekiel's day there was no 'born again' experience even available.
My first question is; What did God 'want' all dead souls for? Souls which all died because they 'all sinned'?
I was at a funeral last week and the preacher used John 3:16 3 times. I wanted to ask him afterward WHY did this believer "PERISH"/die. Because that's why we were burying him; he didn't have eternal life and his body and soul were dead.
JOH 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not PERISH, but have everlasting life.
Same as in the day of Ezekiel ALL are PERISHING.
You quoted this verse at the end of your #9 post.
MAT 10:28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell/gehenna.
The body in this verse is mortally KILLED, but the soul is not killed. How does that fit with your above 'quote'?

just a reminder . you see often one can speak the t ruth and yet still be following an ecumeincal inclusive intefaith path .
So all i did was show us all the path to GOD is not ALL inclusive , its very very exclusive
as in JESUS ONLY . surely reminding us all of this is a real good thing . JESUS ONLY

* that man’s spirit is forgiven, AND Receives Gods SEED, to re-Birth that man’s spirit.
* that man’s IS Now Born of Gods Seed.
* that man’s, soul and spirit IS Accounted in Gods “Books” (of Evidence)…Already Separated, Prepared, Sealed unto the Lord God Almighty Forever, that ONLY the Lord God Almighty can claim and Take that man unto Himself
When the Day ARRIVES…
* For Judgement
* For Gods Books of Evidence to be opened
* For sentencing
* For separations of They WITH and WITHOUT the Lord God…
* The man WHO IS WITH God…is Already Prepared, Established in Gods Books of Evidence, to Be forever With God, in His New Heaven and Earth —->
adjoined ONE Kingdom”… Forever.
They who “While alive”… Rejected the Lord God… God Rejects Them, after their bodily death…
Their blood body dead.
Their Souls life (Gods Breath) returns to God.
Their natural spirit not reborn, thus naturally dies with their natural body…
Their LIFELESS body…and spirit
Their LIFELESS soul…
Destroyed in the Lake of Fire.
They Forgotten, Remembered no more.
Their ^ -> “judgement and sentence”.
Point…
A man’s body, soul, spirit ARE different things, and each thing IS either WITH God forever… or Destroyed / WITHOUT God forever.

MY ADVICE to you , to me and to all is
WE HEED NO such call to do any such thing.
Would you join hands with satan in prayer to God for w orld peace. OF course NOT .

And I KNOW they have already began making that call

ONL Y I SEE a convenant RIGHT NOW that does just that . IT makes a false anti christ peace
covenant and asks all chrisitains to pray with and find common ground with THE FALSE religoins for peace .
ONLY the devil would have done this . It IS that which is of anti christ .
Let none of us heed them or support them in this world peace pact . HE or she who does so
Has made a covenant with satan and that which is of anti christ .
