A Lost Soul?

If your hand or your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life maimed or crippled than to have two hands or two feet and be thrown into eternal fire. Matthew 18:8
Surveys show that the majority of people believe there is a soul. Including atheists. I think we all have this sense of self and that this part of us cannot just be the product of meaningless matter or a figment of our imaginations.
Christ speaks this way a lot and so do the disciples. About storing up treasures in heaven rather than in this life where they can rot and be stolen or end up meaning nothing. Or the ultimate sacrifice of life for another. Which goes against every cell in our bodies that seek to survive and live.
So I guess if there is a soul and afterlife and Jesus says he is the way to saving your soul and that afterlife. I would think you can lose it by rejecting that way.
Whereever the lost soul goes I do not know. But it cannot be the same as a saved soul in Gods kindgom. Which is heaven where we can store our treasures now in this life. So I would imagine losing your soul starts in this life we live.

‘Soul’ is a pretty tough thing to define, so many people have so many different opinions on what it is. But since the rule of the board is to test things with Scripture, it makes it a little easier for us.
We are urged to live good lives, like is the will and nature of the Father, so that we may be raised up and spend our life after death in His city, the new Jerusalem for His tribe.
If we don’t, we are purged by fire for an eternity, not fire that consumes, because the people there are said to gnash their teeth and moan. You can’t do that if you are consumed.
We are transformed one way or another, either through our love or through His fire. Our soul will have to lose it’s bad inclination before it is ready to enter into the new world. If you have a wooden table that falls apart, but cut a small board out of it that’s still reliable and make another table with new wood and the little piece that’s still fine, can you still say the old table lives?
