What is God looking for from us?

I see it. They teach that God doesn’t see them but only sees Jesus, and that all are condemned who don’t believe that, making God to have forsaken the righteous and promising life to those they should not.

YES! Maybe you spoiled it for others...but they probably would never have gotten it. Good job! You have learned well! :)

The iniquity is on 2 levels...on the righteousness level they condemn the just and the meek of the earth. On the holiness level they think God can't see their true condition so they boldly squat where none should dare.

Basically no humility or fear of the Lord.

I believe He is seeking worship from a grateful heart, all for what Jesus Christ has done on our behalf.

You have said somewhere that a righteous man doesn’t know he is righteous but I can see when I have treated someone as I would want to be treated (and I can see when I selfishly have not done so). Also, what of the verse where God says, tell the righteous it will go well with them? If no man knows he has done rightly toward his neighbor, who would the verse help?

Do you mean…that a man doesn’t really see when he has done rightly toward others because he sees his failure so often and sees his great lack and it just looms larger…?

Doing righteousness and declaring yourself righteous are 2 different things. I can claim to be learning righteousness..even humility without making any claim as to whether I am doing it successfully. We are looking at others from behind our own eyes. If we see beauty, we are not seeing whether we are equal in beauty....we are just acknowledging beauty....selflessly. The problem with the ego is wanting to have what we see in others...even using force to get what we want. So then hypocrites see the righteousness of others as a threat. As in...if even THEY are righteous then what does that make ME? That's why no decoy church will ever acknowledge that others can be righteous. Although the Catholics do go some way toward understanding God's mercy. In Protestantism? NO way. It is based on a personal self-righteousness based on the accuracy of beliefs. If your beliefs are wrong, then you are damned.

Obeying Christ is our duty. Acknowledging righteousness in others in beneficial to us...because we are allowing something outside of us to inspire us in a good way. This produces love and mercy...which follows God's commands. It's about getting ourselves out of the way to allow God to work through us in a daily way.
